July is American Grown Flowers Month!

Image
July 1st is just around the corner and with the change of the month comes the brand new "American Grown Flower Month". In 2017, congress passed a resolution declaring July " American Grown Flowers Month", recognizing the economic and cultural impact of America's cut flower and greens farmers. To help spread this important recognition and awareness, Certified American Grown is working with farmers and retailers across the country to help consumers identify and celebrate our homegrown blooms all month long! Will you celebrate July with American Grown Flowers for your home? We hope so!

What's New at the Shop July 2012

Image
Ok, the word here is YUM!! Yummy has arrived with our new goodie baskets. Popcorn, chocolate, candy, cookies, you name it, these goodie baskets have them. Colorful and most in cool keepsake boxes, we've just added them to our website and are anticipating them be very good sellers. Wouldn't you want to receive one of these?  These adorable banks aren't new but we love the signs that Shop Coordinator Sheryl made to be placed around the store to "Inspire" our shoppers. Hey, they are cute, aren't they?  We're starting to do some demonstrations and classes at the shop. This one will be our first on August 15th, we will be holding a Terrarium Making Class. Not only do you get to make your own Terrarium to take home but you get wine and cheese too. What a great event for a girls night out or bring the hubby. Limited to 12 people assistants Sheryl and Alanna will be running the demo from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Students will even leave with a goodie bag filled w

Feeling Like Cinderella

We had so much fun working on the Cinderella's Closet Event this past weekend at Novo Nordisk! Talk about making these girls feel special. The staff and volunteers at Novo did an amazing job collecting prom gowns, shoes and even accessories such as handbags and jewelry. On the day the girls came to the office to choose their dresses, Novo had us decorate the office to create a prom like setting to welcome them.  For those of your not familar with Cinderella's Closet, it's a non profit organization that matches up girls who need prom attire with beautiful, donated ones. Isn't that a wonderful thing?  The weeks leading up to the big "shopping" day, we provided balloons at the office on collection days to create excitement among the employees. Well, they came thru with flying colors, collecting and donation over 300 gowns! Wow!  We loved creating the decor and the staff at Novo seemed very pleased. All in all it was a great event with many vendors and b

Working With Your Spouse

Image
People ask me what it's like working with my husband. It's funny how many variations of this "question" I get. For example, the timeless "How on Earth do you work with your husband"? That's a positive one! "Do you sometimes want to kill each other?" is my personal favorite. For the most part, it works out fine and no, most days we don't want to kill each other. The best part is when we go home at night there is no need to ask how each others day was, because we already know! As he calls me, I'm the creative " visionary " that spends the money and he's the accountant, or " pain in the neck " that keeps me on a budget. For the most part, it's all good. Can spouses work together? I believe so, especially if they each bring something different to the table. He stays in his area and I stay in mine and we only tangle in each others space when absolutely necessary. As a management team I play the role of "

My Life is a Blog!!

Image
I laugh at myself as I write that title but it's funny how every time I have a "grand" revelation (and I use that term loosely) I think - "Wow! I have to write a blog about that"! I'm sitting here wondering when did my life turn into a blog? And the bigger question is, does anyone care what I think? I'm not so sure but boy, I really do love putting down my thoughts knowing that someone just might read it. Last week, one of my employees commented on my writing because she really loves my blogs. She innocently asked me if I got good grades in school for my writing skills. I nearly laughed out loud but, of course, that would not be very Presidential of me. I very nicely told her no, I was never good at English or writing. I was completely honest and told her that I had to take Junior English twice, as I failed with a big fat F! I don't know the difference between a verb and a noun and thank goodness for spell check! I'm a florist for heaven sake, no
