Scent of the Season, Jan 2014

Image
We have decided on our next “Scent of the Season!”  How does Red Delicious Apple sound?  Sounds good to us too.  Buying one will give you the opportunity to receive 25% off ANY one plant item in our stores . After you pack away all your holiday décor your living spaces might seem a bit bare.  Plants are one of the best ways to dress up a space, not to mention all the health benefits of having a few indoor plants - especially when all your windows are closed for the winter. Supplies are limited, so stop on in to either of our Princeton or Yardley  locations and pick up a Red Delicious Apple candle and a new plant for your home, office or for a friend!

Our bridal bouquet ~ known through out the online wedding world as the Funky Peacock Feather Bouquet, was chosen to be used on the Wedding Brochure for the Philadelphia Zoo. This bouquet has been in countless magazines and industry blogs and we were honored they wanted to use it as their showpiece on the cover.  The Philadelphia Zoo reached out to us for permission after seeing the photo on Flickr and were happy to allow them to use it. Created about 6 years ago for a bridal couple hosting their wedding at the Lambertville Inn, this photo was taken by Jeff Tisman Photography. To read more about this bouquet and the flowers used to create it, Click HERE to read our blog about it. To see more of our wedding designs be sure to check out our Wedding Website HERE  ~ we would be happy to schedule a flower consultation with you.

Fun Winter Flowers

Only Likes One Flower?

Image
I over heard someone the other day that said his girlfriend only loves one flower. I don't even remember what flowers it was he said she likes, my brain was stuck on the "only 1 flower" part. How can that be? I know I'm a florist but I think it's pretty universal at this point that all human beings love flowers. That being around flowers makes us happy. Can it be that someone can only "like" one flower? I think it's impossible. To prove my point I'm going to share a few photos of flowers that I took last year at Longwood Gardens, one of my favorite places in the whole wide world!! Starting with my favorite ~ roses; love, love, love these. Too common? For shame they are stunning in every color they come in. Camellia ~ I don't often see these and they were new to Longwood last year but wow, they were gorgeous!   Asiatic Lilies ~ so vibrant and showy, these made an amazing display in the greenhouse. As florists, we love working with th

A Great Gift Idea for Those Who Don't Need Anything

Image
Ho, ho, ho, tis the season to rack your brain dreaming  up gift ideas for those people in our lives that don't really need anything.  You might laugh at my Blog title but we all know a few folks like that. Enter the Gift Option of "Flower of the Month" !  While speaking to a customer the other day she mentioned that she thought it would be nice to send her mother flowers every month for 6 months as her Christmas present.  Back before our new website was designed we had a "Flower of the Month" club and so I was inspired to finally add this gift option back to our website in time for the Christmas holiday season.   Here is how it works; your choose how many month of flowers you would like to have sent (3, 4, 5, 6, 9 and 12 months) and then we take care of the rest. Each month we will send a different seasonal arrangement for them to enjoy. Everyone loves flowers and so perhaps this just might be a great gift option for you Mother or Grandmother. Ha

What is a Grave Blanket?

Image
Never heard of a Grave Blanket? Don't worry, your probably aren't alone. Here in the north east is customary to have a lovely "blanket" made from ever greens and winter accents to be placed on the grave of a loved one.  It's just a nice remembrance during the holiday season to make the graveside look a bit more decorated and festive.  According to Ask.com   "A  Grave blankets are a type of flower design that is used to decorate graves. They are made in a variety of sizes and styles, for example, standard, cascading, traditional, and double wide. Each of these styles has a specific design and flower capacity . I chucked when I read that because we make all of our Grave Blankets custom for each customer and no two ever look exactly the same. The folks who order them from us are looking for something lush and beautiful with many holiday and winter accents like this one that has golden lotus pods, ilex winter berry, glittered pine cones, red velvet rib

Cranberry Wedding at the Cranbury Inn

Image
Cranbury Inn is one of our favorite venues for weddings and last weekends wedding for Danielle and Jason ranks pretty high on our favorite decor list. Held just a few weeks before Christmas, this holiday themed wedding that included winter berry, holly, pine, red roses and of course, cranberries really set the mood for the holiday season. Below is the pretty table arrangement we created for the place card table.  Next came the ceremony. Because the ceremony was held in the same location as the ceremony, the arch was the perfect way to anchor the "altar" and the floating Cranberries and hanging juliet candles looks so pretty lining the aisle.   Imagine these when the lights went low.   A touch of cranberries at the base of the Juliette holders were the perfect little touch to infuse a bit of red.   During the reception the candle holders were now used to decorate the ledges along the outer edge of the ballroom adding a warm glow.  The centerpieces were creat

Scenes From the Shop

Today was $5 Flower Friday and actually our special deal were mini Holly plants. They just flew out of both shops with Yardley selling out around 4:30 pm. Here I am unpacking them from our wholesaler at about 7:15 am this morning!  The poinsettia's come in and the poinsettia's go out. We've received 3 shipments of these lovely plants already and it's only December 6th   Tomorrow's wedding bouquets are done and waiting over night in the cooler. They are the perfect flowers for the Christmas themed wedding , don't you agree?   I especially love the centerpieces. The wedding is at the Cranbury Inn and so the Cranberries are really appropriate!   That's it, just a sneak peek into the shop on a very busy Friday in December!

How to Care for Your Poinsettia

Image
We don't sell as many of these pretty plants as we used to but they still make a great gift option and they are easier to take care of than you may think!  Tip of the Day: Looking after a Poinsettia Position the plant in good light away from direct sunlight and draughts.  Poinsettias originate from warmer climates than our area, so avoid temperatures below 55F.  Over watering will quickly damage the plant. Wait until the surface of the compost begins to dry out, then water thoroughly.  It's as easy as that so get out and get those Poinsettias for your home or office!
