Why are flowers more expensive on Valentine's Day?

Image
Why are flowers more expensive on Valentine’s Day ? Many people are getting flowers for their loved ones for Valentine's Day, but they may wonder why the price tag on them is suddenly increased. Here are 4 reasons to help explain the reason! 1. Roses need to grow quicker It takes 14 weeks to grow a rose. If you do the math you will soon realize that there aren’t 14 weeks between Christmas and Valentine’s Day. The timescale between those two peaks isn’t big enough for the roses to grow at their natural pace. To encourage the flowers to grow, the flowers need extra heat and light which costs more money! 2 The Roses have to be cut quicker More demand for red roses equals less time to cut all the roses . This means that the flowers have to be cut in a very small window of time. To keep up with the demand growers need to invest in extra labor and overtime, which of course costs money! 3 More Roses have to be transported Because everyone wants their roses at the same ti

Take our Classic English Blooms - this design is Stunning with a capital S! The floral design is lush, elegant and full. Blue hydrangea, pink lilies and purple stock arranged in a 12" tall classic ming vase. Another sweet design and very affordable is our Puffy Heart Mug filled with pink roses, white daisies and lavender waxflowers and white monte casino accents. Add a teddy bear and a balloon and you have a adorable gift that will cost you 1/2 of what a dozen red roses would be.  Last but not least, instead of sending traditional roses, why not send an amazing "heart" anthurium plant garden? Wedding Anniversary Gift Ideas for Men to Their Ladies

Image
Do  you have a special anniversary coming up ~ 5 years, 10 years maybe even 25 years? Well, we have some really great ideas for you! Take past Groom Ellis for example? This past week was he and Tina's 5th wedding anniversary. What did he do to make the day special? He had us duplicate her bridal bouquet for her! What a sweet guy and what a great idea, right? Can't remember what was in her bridal bouquet ? Don't worry, any talented florist can take a peek at a photo and determine how it was made and what flowers were used. In the case of Tina and Ellis, we designed the original bouquet 5 years ago and so it was easily recreated.  Wow, what about sending this? One hundred, yes I said 100, long stem red roses . Imagine the delivery arriving to her office and how amazing she will feel when all her coworkers see this! Roses are the traditional anniversary flower and they speak of love but if red is not her color, why not send her assorted colors of roses like this

Amazing Red Roses

We sell more red roses than another other color. That probably doesn't come as surprise to you because when it comes to romance it's all about the red. This rose variety is called "Freedom" and has rich red petals that gently open outward as the flower blooms.  Red roses are still the traditional floral gift for wedding anniversaries with 12 being the most popular presentation followed by 2 dozen. A simple glass vases, elegant foliage and a touch of accent flowers such as baby's breath makes for a classic/timeless presentation.  What are your favorite color roses ?

Why You Should Order Your Valentine's Day Flower Early

Image
It's hard to believe that we are half way through January so that puts us less than 3 weeks to Valentine's Day . Now don't start cringing and getting all stressed out. Let's face it, we have a nice selection of lovely floral gifts on our website right now and if you order prior to February 1st, you pay our regular price on roses instead of the holiday pricing. Here's a tip for you, order early and save money. One less thing for you to do later. Here are some Valentine's Day Gift Ordering Tips for You! Valentine's Day is on a Thursday this year which leads us to believe it's going to be a busy one for us florists. I'm not sure if I want to cry or laugh about that! The truth is that there are more people that want to send flowers than florists that can deliver them. Oh and heaven forbid you order from those companies that ship flowers in a box. Do you really want your sweetie to get their Valentine's Day roses from the FedEX man? I don&

Red and Ravishing

Image
A red bridal bouquet is not for everyone but if you want to go bold, this just might be the wedding color for you! This bouquet made for our bride Alex yesterday was both striking and dramatic. Red roses in 2 shades and red mini callas accented with green hypericum berries was a sight to be hold!!  Here I am doing a bit of modeling with this striking  bouquet. Honestly the photos don't really do the color and texture justice!! What is nice about a deep, rich color like red is that in bright sunlight the color stays very true. A great thing on a sunny summer day in July! We can't wait to see Alex's pictures, can you? Each week when the wedding flowers arrive we hold our breath until we see them. In this weeks case, the flowers were spectacular and each variety chosen really complimented each other (I will pat myself on the back for that one). I rarely interject my personal tastes but when I do, I've been know to say that red is not one of my favorite colors

Who says you have to send red roses on Valentine's Day? If you ask the average woman if Red Rose are her favorite, most will tell you no. Don't believe me? Try asking them. Year round we sell lots and lots of red roses but we also sell roses in other colors such as peach (like above), pink, yellow, orange, white and even purple. What not think out of the box (and save some money) but sending something other than red this year?  Speaking of doing something different, why not send a flower other than roses? A vase of colorful gerbers is fun and flirty. Add a card message like "I saw this flower this morning and I thought it was the most beautiful thing I ever saw, until I saw you". Ok, who wouldn't melt with that!! How about adding a hand written note to the center of this frame and then below it a picture of the two of you? These sweet champagne glasses are the perfect gift. Making a special dinner at home? Have these at each place setting and then br

Color Trends for 2012 Weddings

Image
Because of our heavy wedding and event schedule this week, we were not able to attend the Society of American Florist convention this week. One of the discussions I was looking forward to was color trends for 2012. Imagine my surprise when following the convention online, I noticed that the color most likely to trend for next years weddings was red!! Over the past 2 weekends, we have done two weddings for brides named Julia and both have chosen red bouquets! Last weeks bride, who's wedding had a casino theme complete with gaming tables, included fun elements such as feathers and tulle into her bouquet. This weeks Julia kept things simple and classic (see her bouquet above) by having us hand tie Black Bacara roses accented with tiny gems for a touch of sparkle. As brides start meeting with us for their 2012 weddings, I'll be sure to report back on the colors, flowers and other elements they will be using. That's what we love most about doing weddings... things are always ch

Do I Have to Order Flowers for Valentine's Day?

Image
No, of course not, no one is forcing you to!! That being said we sincerely hope that you include flowers in your life as a gift giving option. Valentine's Day (or week, as we like to call it) is one of the busiest floral holidays of the year and rightly so. Few gifts are as emotional as flowers and few holidays are more personal than Valentine's Day! Perhaps the real beginning of flower giving as we know it today was in the Middle Ages, where flowers where given as tokens of affection by lovers. In a conservative society giving particular flowers in the flower delivery could act as a secret message from the giver to the recipient. Flower delivery was an early form of the text message, then, with perhaps a little more subtlety and a lot more beauty! Of course, red roses have always been viewed as the most romantic flowers to express love but with an endless assortment to choose from, the possibilities are endless! But as with all supply and demand, when the demand goes up, sup
