Walking the Flower Fields of California

Image
I can't believe that it's been over 2 months since my trip to California to visit flower farms and I have not yet blogged about it. Forgive me blog readers as I have sinned!! Oh my gosh, what a trip is was and in a perfect world I would tell you about each and every farm, but as I do not live in a perfect world, a world with extra time on my hands soI'm going to give you a quick snap shot of our trip. First off, I need to thank my wholesaler Delaware Valley Wholesale who completely paid for this amazing trip. Well, I guess I technically won the trip but either way, I'm grateful to Tim, John and everyone at Delaware Valley Wholesale. Kevin and I traveled with some wonderful folks from DV and other Floral shops! Here we are at the beginning of our trip and no, there are no flowers but what a wonderful way to start the trip with a visit to the Pacific ocean. Yup, that's me front and center with my amazing hubby behind me.  Now it would take just too long to show

Finding a Real Local Florist

Image
Have you ever tried to order flowers, done a Google searched, used a "floral company" only to find out they farmed the order out to a "Real Florist" and charged you a huge fee to do so? Well, then you are not alone. This is happening more in more in many industries, one of which is in the floral trade. As florists, we are often "Impersonated" with unethical Order Gatherers acting as if they are us, only to the collect the order and charge a high fee. It hurts our business so whenever we can we try to educate the public any way we can! When you send flowers out of your area, the best way to do it, is to be sure the florist you are calling is local or to let your "Real Local Florist" that you know and trust handle it for you. Did you know that we handle out of town flower orders? We not only find a "Real Local Florist" to create and deliver your flowers but we also confirm the order was delivered by contacting them directly. We then

Finding a Real Florist and Not an Order Gatherer

Don't you love the Internet? We do but with the invent of the internet came a very bad thing for florists ~ The dreaded Order Gatherer. What is an Order Gatherer you ask? It's a business who sometimes claims to be a physical floral store, located in a town where they really are not located. How do they stay in business? By acting like they are a real florist , they "gather" orders and then turn around and send them via a floral network such as Teleflora or FTD back to real florists who then fill them.  Why is this bad?  First off, it's bad for the florist, because the orders are "stolen" away from them and then often resent back to them at a lower price than the consumer pays.  Second, this is bad for the consumer because they are often paying a high fee almost $20 in some cases, that goes to the "order gatherer" directly and not into their floral gift. Some even do what we call skimming, which means they pay the florist even less than

How to Know You are Dealing with a Real Florist

The holidays are the perfect time to send friends, family and clients flowers through a florist but buyer beware. Sending flowers is easy and affordable and did you know that people that send flowers are seen as "thoughtful and sincere". It's true and a Rutger's University study proved it.  So for that person who has it all, sending a pretty floral centerpiece for the holiday could be the perfect gift but buyer beware so read on!  Over the years there have many businesses that have popped up online acting as if they are a real florist when in reality, they are a call center collecting orders. These business have been funneling orders away from local florists for years, charge the consumer an extra fee (sometimes as high as $17!!!) and then transmit the order back to a local florist for them to full fill and deliver. Some of these businesses are down right sneaky and have names that make them appear to be located in a certain town. When ever you order onlin
