Image
Wednesday, March 8th is  International Women’s Day . Started in 1909, the first Women's Day honored the 129 women who died in a factory fire in Chicago. In 1914 the Holiday was officially observed on March 8th and has remained that date since and seeks to  raise political and social awareness of the struggles of women. More than 100 nations recognize Women’s Day (35 declared it a national holiday) with thousands of events held by organizations, governments, charities, educational institutions, women’s groups, corporations and the media. People give flowers and other small gifts to their mothers, wives, grandmothers and daughters, as well as coworkers, teachers, and friends to show respect, appreciation and love.  Very popular in throughout Eastern Europe and Asia the holiday has been described as a combination of Mother's Day and Valentine's Day.   The flower most often associated with Women's Day is the bright yellow mimosa acacia flower. Creative Thinking

As found on the "About Flowers" Website: The behavioral research, conducted by a team at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital, identifies the factors most likely to impact 21st century employee well being, commitment and productivity.

Perhaps the real beginning of flower giving as we know it today was in the Middle Ages, where flowers where given as tokens of affection by lovers. In a conservative society giving particular flowers in the flower delivery could act as a secret message from the giver to the recipient. Flower delivery was an early form of the text message, then, with perhaps a little more subtlety and a lot more beauty! Of course, red roses have always been viewed as the most romantic flowers to express love but with an endless assortment to choose from, the possibilities are endless! But as with all supply and demand, when the demand goes up, sup
