What do color and flowers have in common? Quite a bit!!

Image
The health benefits of living with flowers are many and the colors can mean so much. According to a 10-month behavioral study at Rutgers University, flowers have an immediate impact on happiness and a long-term positive effect on moods. Study participants reported feeling less depressed, anxious, and agitated when presented with flowers. Color plays a strong role in this reaction: • Red has a positive effect on the immune system and an energizing influence on fatigue and exhaustion. • When you see pink , you often feel joy. Bright hues of this color increase blood pressure, heartbeat and respiration, as well, which leads to energy. • Violet calms the body and mind and nourishes creativity. • Yellow , the happy color, encourages communication while it stimulates memory and the nervous system. • Orange’s psychological profile includes promoting optimism, determination, and success. On the other hand, it also urges viewers to socialization, so be sparing with this colo...

July is American Grown Flowers Month!

Image
July 1st is just around the corner and with the change of the month comes the brand new "American Grown Flower Month". In 2017, congress passed a resolution declaring July " American Grown Flowers Month", recognizing the economic and cultural impact of America's cut flower and greens farmers. To help spread this important recognition and awareness, Certified American Grown is working with farmers and retailers across the country to help consumers identify and celebrate our homegrown blooms all month long! Will you celebrate July with American Grown Flowers for your home? We hope so!

Sending Flowers as the Final Tribute ~ why you SHOULD send flowers to a funeral

Image
Imagine walking in a funeral home or church. You are there to pay your last respects to a friend, colleague or even family member. As you enter, folks are sitting there, quietly talking but not mingling around. Well, it is a funeral so why would anyone mingle, right? As you enter and decide where to stand, sit or who to talk to you notice that the room is completely devoid of flowers. There's no plants either. Nothing. There's the memorial table or casket with the family sitting in the front but that is it. When you explore this vision, how do you feel about it? How do you feel about the environment? If it makes you feel empty or sad, imagine how the immediate family feel. No one sent flowers? Yes, they may have made donations if they could not attend but the room looks rather dark, sad and quite honestly, dull. That's not to say that churches and funeral homes are not nicely appointed but nothing is as uplifting in a space as fresh flowers. Have you noticed how when th...

Fun Halloween Flower Ideas!

This is one of our favorite times of year in the shop. It's a time when the designers get to have fun and create custom designs for the holiday. Here's a sampling of this years offerings! This design features a keepsake wine glass complete with a witches hat with purple and green flowers. Remind you of anyone? We think of the witch from the Wizard of Oz! This design is called Witches Wine ! This hysterical design is created in a keepsake mug that says "I'm Dead Before Coffee" and has a skeleton on the other side. Sunflowers and Roses complete this design called "Must Have Coffee" . This design is called Witches Brew which includes orange roses, purple calla lilies and an adorable witches hat. Which (or witch) design is your favorite?

Image
Posting a bit late but HAPPY HOLIDAYS! The shop has been very busy since the beginning of December and we are so grateful for all our customers who allow us to make a living doing what we love to do. As always we've been helping folks express their feelings and with this Winter season still comes birthday's, get well's and unfortunately sympathy's along with the festive occasions of Hanukkah, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. It's always fun to see the holiday trends and this year traditional centerpieces were the best sellers such as this design created by our lead designer. We also had many folks choosing festive basket designs such as this Berries and Spices which included cinnamon sticks.  We even had some fun with Succulent plants by using fun Merry Christmas boxes as pots.  Although not as popular as previous years, we still made a fair amount of Boxwood trees. This one will be brightening someone's day when it's delivered on Christmas...

International Women's Day 2017

Image
Wednesday, March 8th is  International Women’s Day . Started in 1909, the first Women's Day honored the 129 women who died in a factory fire in Chicago. In 1914 the Holiday was officially observed on March 8th and has remained that date since and seeks to  raise political and social awareness of the struggles of women. More than 100 nations recognize Women’s Day (35 declared it a national holiday) with thousands of events held by organizations, governments, charities, educational institutions, women’s groups, corporations and the media. People give flowers and other small gifts to their mothers, wives, grandmothers and daughters, as well as coworkers, teachers, and friends to show respect, appreciation and love.  Very popular in throughout Eastern Europe and Asia the holiday has been described as a combination of Mother's Day and Valentine's Day.   The flower most often associated with Women's Day is the bright yellow mimosa acacia flower. Random Acts of Kindness

Image
I had a thought while driving in the car this morning ~ I think sending flowers is almost a "Random Act of Kindness". When we make flower deliveries the person receiving the floral gift does not expect them. Sometimes it's their birthday , sometimes it's a get well but often they are not expected. I guess by definition, it's not totally random as the sender knows the recipient but it really is unexpected and to me that makes it one of the most powerful gifts you can give. I think most of our Floral Stylists here at the shop think the flowers are the most important part of the gift and of course, a gorgeous, fresh arrangement never hurts - but the card sentiment really convey's the message, making the receiver feel loved and special.   Want to make someone's day? We say send them a bouquet of flowers and that will do the trick!!

It's All About the Angels

Image
The shop is filled with Angels ~ here are a few for you to view.  Mom, You're an Angel to Me.   Grandma You're an Angel to Me.   Friends are Angels Here on Earth and So Very Blessed.   Always Hope.   Sister, You're an Angel to Me.  To see these adorable angels and other gift ideas feel free to visit our website or our Facebook Page .

Sorry folks, we've been a bit light in the blogging department but it's been a busy few weeks at the shop and so we thought we share what's been going on through the eyes of our Instagram account!! A few weeks ago we created this adorable LEGO themed party. So cute right?  While I was in a Wedding Flower meeting the ladies had a little fun and shot this Selfie! !  Lots of purple flowers leaving the shop like these designs created for a photo shoot at Chauncey Conference Center. Do you like them?  Each week we create lobby floral designs for about 30 companies.
