The Power of Flowers and My Retirement

Image
Wow, I can't believe how long it's been since I wrote on a subject for this blog. For those that don't know, my husband and I have closed our shop and retired! I'd like to say that I miss running the shop but for almost 8 months now we have been thoroughly enjoying having time to our selves to putter around the house, travel, meet up with friends and just be ourselves.  So what has inspired me to write again? Well, I'm in the process of writing a book!! Yes, it's a book about which I feel highly qualified to write and the topic is "How to Choose a Wedding Florist". After years of helping hundreds if not thousands of couples plan their wedding flowers, I'm putting together an eBook that will help them choose a florist, save time, money and frustration. I'm taking all the things I learned as well as all the things I saw my couples do both wrong and right and sharing them with others.  The book is almost done but I'm currently writing a chapt

Bridal Guide Wedding

Image
It's always fantastic seeing our floral designs featured in a wedding publication and it's happened again! The February/March addition of Bridal Guide is out sharing a wedding we created for Kristin and Brandon at the Chauncey Conference Center. Below are a few of our favorite photos from this amazing wedding! The brides maids carried three Juliet Garden roses with summer grasses.   Kristin's bouquet featured lace flower, tea roses, garden roses, grasses, stock and 3 different types of eucalyptus.   The bride and groom rented some vintage furniture and used this bureau as a way of telling the guests what table they were to be seated at!   The wedding cake was a simple design accented with fresh flowers. The cake was created by Cramer's Bakery of Yardley, PA.   This is the addition the article is featured - February/March Bridal Guide   We always love working at Chauncey Conference Center but it was a truly was an amazing experience creati

It's January. It's cold. It's dreary. Yup - It's winter but we have something to help lift spirits and make people smile. FLOWERS ! Yes, they are true mood booster and we are not making that up. Studies show that having flowers near by help to make people feel more upbeat and less depressed. Do you  know someone that could use a brightly color pick me up? What about yourself? Flowers are the affordable mood booster ~ so come and get'em! No special occasion necessary!

Inspirational 2018 ~ Happy New Year

Image
.... and just like that Christmas is over and 2018 is just around the corner. With the end of December comes doing inventory and a product flip of the shop.  In addition to our usual floral items, gifts, greeting cards, plush etc we have gone full into inspirational and metaphysical products. Blessing Bowls, Angels, Crystal, Pendulums and Inspirational Word Stones have been big sellers and we will be expanding this line in 2018. Facebook is a great place to look for new arrivals at www.facebook.com/localflorist   Have we mentioned that we completely rebuilt our website recently? It's up and running for just about a month and so far the feed back has been very positive. Hope on and let us know what you think at www.sendingsmiles.com   Just time for a New Year we will be adding more products to the mix so be sure to check back in a few weeks. Happy New Year everyone!!

Decorate and Celebrate

Can you believe that December 1st is this Friday? Well, the weather has turned a bit cooler but it still hard to believe that Christmas is less than 30 days away. Of course, as soon as Thanksgiving is over, our customers start requesting holiday and winter themed floral designs and we do not want to disappoint them! Lead Designer Alanna has added quite a few new designs to the offerings this year including the 2 designs below. This one is called Rudolph . Either of these adorable designs would make a perfect centerpiece for a party or for at home on a coffee table, right? The design below is called the Mosaic .  Which one is your favorite? In addition to new floral designs, we have brought in a wide selection of gourmet items for gift baskets, including some yummy chocolates . These are great grab bag or Secret Santa Gifts.  We have also brought in a few new gift lines such as Naked Bee which is a natural skincare line with nourishing ingredients and addictive scents. Th

Happy Thanksgiving! The holiday means different things to different people. Working in the flower business it's about helping other have a festive and happy day. Our designers have been hard at working creating some pretty floral designs in all shapes and sizes. This pretty centerpiece was priced at only $24.99!   This design is called Skillman Sophistication.   We sold so many ceramic pumpkins this holiday!  Another pretty centerpiece with sunflowers, roses, statice, pods and eucalyptus.   Cornucopias are popular ever year and this year was no exception.   Many of our designs were styled as low and long designs, perfect for long tables. Which one is your favorite?

Happenings at the Flower Shop

Our days are busy and varied and this week was no exception. Our Sales Associate Alexis often designs but this was her very first casket spray. Isn't it pretty? We think she did a great job.  This week we have two weddings, including this one for Friday. Pink must be the popular color right now! We're thinking our bride "Lavender" is going to be so surprised when she lays eyes on this beauty.  Fabulous customer Anna from California contacted us via Yelp and said "Help", I need to send 60 roses and so here you go - who wouldn't be thrilled when this arrives, right?  Our Lead Designer Alanna was hard at work filling our cooler with gorgeous summer floral arrangements like this one. One minute it's in our cooler and then next it's leaving with a happy customer.  Can you send my wife a bright summer flower design to cheer her up? Of course we can. This pretty design includes mini calla lilies, roses, hydrangea, sunflowers and other

What's New in the Shop - January 2017

Image
Can you believe the Christmas/Hanukkah season is over? I know I can't but I'm personally excited for the start of 2017! Every year at this time we revamp the shop, clean out the old and in with the new. January is always a great time to freshen up the home or office with plants which is why we bring in plants of all types and sizes.  Right now Succulent Plants are very popular and they make such nice gifts for pretty much an occasion. We have them potted and ready to go.  We also have loose plugs that can be combined into gardens in just about any kind of container.  Wouldn't these be cute for the office.  Succulents planted in ceramic and/or glass.   We also restocked our selection of tillandsia....  Small Bonsai Plants It's also a great time of year for a big, bold bunch of fresh flowers!   We're also restocked our selection of adorable little angels including this one that says "Have Faith" We've always c
