Small Business Saturday ~ Shopping Local Stats

Image
It's that time of year again ~ the holiday shopping season has begun and judging by the mall parking lots on Black Friday, it's going to be a busy one. Have you considered where you shop ? If you haven't you should. Here's a few stats to show how you can play an important role in your community by shopping small independently owned businesses!  I know you've heard it before but shopping at locally owned small businesses really can make a difference in your community. You might ask how and this photo below shows the story. Consider a small business like mine. When I need to get something printed, I used my local printer Ed at Document Depot. When I need to get one of my 4 delivery vans fixed, I use a local garage ~ Fowlers in Princeton - Gary is the best! When I buy my yummy chapsticks that we give out to our customers, I use Jim at Browndog Marketing. Each of the business has employees who work for them, so my purchases help keep people employed. This is one of our favorite times of year in the shop. It's a time when the designers get to have fun and create custom designs for the holiday. Here's a sampling of this years offerings! This design features a keepsake wine glass complete with a witches hat with purple and green flowers. Remind you of anyone? We think of the witch from the Wizard of Oz! This design is called Witches Wine ! This hysterical design is created in a keepsake mug that says "I'm Dead Before Coffee" and has a skeleton on the other side. Sunflowers and Roses complete this design called "Must Have Coffee" . This design is called Witches Brew which includes orange roses, purple calla lilies and an adorable witches hat. Which (or witch) design is your favorite?

Honestly, we have been searching for someone for more than 2 years and then along comes Alicia who not only is the best fit but goes above and beyond what we could have hoped for.  MMF: Alicia, we're so happy to have you join us at Monday Morning Flowers (MMF). Tell us how you became interested in the flower business! Alicia: My career started as a cashier at a local supermarket but the floral manager asked me to help out in that department one Mother's Day and the rest is history. That was 3 years ago.  MMF: What have you been doing to further your design skills? Alicia:   I'm currently attending Buck's County Community College and taking classes in their AIFD (American Institute of Floral Design) Floral Design Certification Program. I've already taken basic and intermediate design classes along with

Sending Sympathy and Funeral Flowers

Image
Sending Sympathy This year has held major changes for everyone ~ that include the loss of a loved one. The loss of a family member or friend can be emotional and something we do not take lightly. It's trying to share beautiful floral arrangements during a ti me of loss.  We know that floral pieces help bring family members closure and we wanted share. Arrangements get showcased on Instagram and Facebook  because we know most people are at a loss of what to send and we are here to help.  We work closely with many local funeral homes, J Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel , Mather-Hodge Funeral Home  - to name a few.  Below is a large full casket piece. All white flowers including roses, gardenias, orchids, hydrangea and other flowers: All white floral designs are a popular theme due to their elegance and natural look. This piece below is the matching basket to the above casket piece:   Colored flowers help bring brightness to a somber setting, provide conversation and
