Our Floral Design Class

Image
This weeks " Principles of Floral Design " class was a huge success. 12 ladies joined us to learn about floral design and to made their own creations to bring home with them. Led by our Design Manager Holly and Assisted by Designer/Customer Care Coordinator Alanna, the ladies learned about Balance, Depth, Rhythm and Harmony. The class was a blend of Newbies to our classes and veterans who have been to 2 or more of our In Store Events . Doesn't it look like the ladies had fun?  Holly explains depth to the students.    Attendees had fun taking photos of their arrangements.    Attendees like Debbie and Lynn had fun taking pictures of themselves.    The students had fun looking at each others designs.    Attendee Laureen was taking pictures each step of the way to send to her husband.    Floral Design and Wine, what could be better? This class was only $55 and included food. Interesting in our future classes? Be sure to visit our website at www.sendi

Grover Cleveland Wreath

Image
Did you know that Grover Cleveland is the only past President of the United States that is buried in New Jersey? Well, he is and every year the current President sends a floral wreath and a Military Honor Guard to his graveside for his birthday. Buried in Princeton Cemetary, we are honored to create and deliver this patriotic wreath for the ceremony every year. The wreath is made using very specific elements such as 20 red carnations, 20 white carnations and 20 blue iris along with huckleberry greens, a white wooden easel and all created on a straw wreath form. Happy Birthday President Cleveland! To see more of our sympathy and everyday floral designs, visit our website at http://www.sendingsmiles.com/

Choosing Table Linen Colors

Image
Here's a photo of an after wedding (the couple got married in Jamaica) reception that we set up yesterday. I don't know about you but I was so happy to find out that the couple were actually going to be able to choose a linen color. In our area, most banquet halls, country clubs and the like only offer ivory or white and so unless budget allows, many of my clients need to stick to those two options. Personally, I love what a colored linen can do for a room, especially with regards to complimenting the flowers. In this case, the bride and groom asked me my opinion on what linen color they should do and I was happy to advise them. One option was a deep orange but that shade was very overpowering and more of a "fall" orange than a summer tangerine. There was also a hot pink and that color was a bit too much and I feared it would have overpowered the brightly colored flowers they wanted. Another choice was a deep plum purple that I really loved but they were a bit fear

Add a Bit of Willow

Image
I'm just sitting here between trying to read my Floral Management and cathing up on e-mails, something catches my eye which gets me to thinking. This weekend we have two parties - one a bar mitzvah and one a bat mitzvah where we will be using one of my favorite "accents". Curly willow. I love using curly willow. A delicate and graceful natural branch that can add a bit of drama to floral design work. About 3 years ago my niece Rosalie met with me to talk about her wedding flowers. "I want lots of roses, pearls and sticks in my wedding arrangements, Aunt Georgianne". Um, Rosalie, has your Aunt not taught you that those are not sticks - branches, my dear, they are branches.  If I told my brides that I wanted to add sticks to their wedding flowers, they would want to hit me!! But truly, how can you call these lovely line elements sticks? Still fresh and bendable when they arrive to our shop, they are such a fantastic floral tool both natural and architectural in
