January ~ a time for events

Image
January ~ a time for social and corporate events? You bet! You would think that during the month of January, there would not be too many corporate or social events happening but it is the furthest from the truth. We have been hard at work creating flower centerpiece after flower centerpiece. This week has had us creating floral centerpieces for Executive Board Meetings (like the photo below) and other corporate events. Believe it or not we even have an order for Holiday themed c enterpieces . Why, you might ask? Because if you are in the restaurant business and you want to throw a holiday party for your staff, you certainly can't do it in December, so January is the perfect time!  Add a non-profit installation dinner, a 100th birthday party and a few other events and you have a very busy schedule of parties. Our flower designing staff have been hard at working making flower centerpieces of all sizes, shapes and colors. With the centerpiece designs below, the client reque

New Addition to Our Princeton Collection

Image
THE NEWEST ADDITION TO OUR PRINCETON COLLECTION ALEXANDER The newest Addition to Our  Princeton Collection   Alexander  ~ we always love creating new flower arrangement designs but sometimes it can be hard to come up with a name. Not when we created this new design being added to our Selection called the Princeton Collection. Most of the designs in this collection have somewhat of an Orange and Black Theme because they are inspired by Princeton University. You may not be aware that we not only deliver to the University for the students, faculty and employees but the University is a wonderful client for us as well. We have provided many, many floral and balloon decor events for them over the last 30 years. It's always black and orange season when Princeton University is in session! This new design was inspired by and named after one of the most gorgeous buildings on the Campus Called Alexander Hall. We love this photo we found online because it truly shows how gorgeous this bu

We loved all the purple! This months design class was a fun time had by all - making spooky martini floral centerpieces! This photo was part of the "Instagram Takeover" with Princeton Online . Feel free to link here to see more of our design classes that are coming up!  We love the autumn shades with lots of rich reds in the designs we created for Jennifer and Jim's wedding at the Nassau Inn.   October is a super busy month for balloon work like this balloon arch for the Leukemia and Lymphoma light the night walk in Morris Plains. This was a team of George and Alanna while Kevin built the same exact displays in Sewell and Long Branch. Now that

FreshTen Once Again

Image
At the beginning of the year we launched Fresh 10 ~ Our $10 bouquet. Similar to our $5 Fridays, we feature a different bouquet every Monday. It has been a lot of fun picking out more unique flowers and combinations. I thought it would be fun to show some of the styles we came up with over the last few months. We love finding great deals and passing them along to our customers. Being in a corporate park, it has given more of a chance for our customers to bring a bouquet to their office. If you ask me I think that's a perfect way to start off a work week. Today's FreshTen are bouquets of protea, lilies and tropical foliage's ~ for only $10, what a deal!  Our store is located in the Princeton Forrestal Village between the Westin Hotel and Cando Fitness Center. To reserve a bouquet or to place a flower order we can be reached at 609-520-2005 or shop us online at www.sendingsmiles.com

The Color Purple!

Image
Ok, now how fun is purple? It's not for everyone and most people you ask will tell you they either love purple or hate it but no one can say that it does not make a strong statement. I remember thinking how daring my sister in law was being when she picked purple as her wedding color over 15 years ago!! Love it or hate it you have to give the color purple it's due. It's dramatic!! These bouquets were created for our bride Julie's brides maids. Deep purple lisianthus, along with purple hydrangea and roses were slightly accented with lime green berries!   This bouquet was created for our bride Andria and was quite striking for her wedding ceremony at Grounds for Sculpture. There was no way this bouquet did not stand out among the garden setting! This hand tied bouquet of purple and cream colored roses along with blue hydrangea was simple and sweet for this brides outdoor ceremony. The collar of variegated greens softened the look and gave them that "fresh picked"

The Lovely Poinsettia.

Image
Maybe it's just me but it's not Christmas until the lovely poinsettia's arrive. Just before Thanksgiving we start bringing in these colorful plants and all through out December they arrive, get displayed and then get sold. The shop looks so empty when they are all gone and it's so sad!! I thought it might be helpful to post some Do's and Don't for poinsettia care. Thanks to the Paul Ecke Ranch for providing me with this information!! The Do's and Don'ts of Poinsettia Care DO place your plant in indirect sunlight for at least six hours per day. If direct sun can't be avoided, diffuse the light with a shade or sheer curtain. DO provide room temperatures between 68 - 70° F. Generally speaking, if you are comfortable, so is your poinsettia. DO water your plant when the soil feels dry to the touch. DO use a large, roomy shopping bag to protect your plant when transporting it. DON'T place plants near cold drafts or excessive heat. Av
