Walking the Flower Fields of California

Image
I can't believe that it's been over 2 months since my trip to California to visit flower farms and I have not yet blogged about it. Forgive me blog readers as I have sinned!! Oh my gosh, what a trip is was and in a perfect world I would tell you about each and every farm, but as I do not live in a perfect world, a world with extra time on my hands soI'm going to give you a quick snap shot of our trip. First off, I need to thank my wholesaler Delaware Valley Wholesale who completely paid for this amazing trip. Well, I guess I technically won the trip but either way, I'm grateful to Tim, John and everyone at Delaware Valley Wholesale. Kevin and I traveled with some wonderful folks from DV and other Floral shops! Here we are at the beginning of our trip and no, there are no flowers but what a wonderful way to start the trip with a visit to the Pacific ocean. Yup, that's me front and center with my amazing hubby behind me.  Now it would take just too long to show...

This Weekend at the Flower Shop

Image
Thank goodness it's Friday! Well, it's actually Saturday but when I thought I wanted to share what's going on in the shop today, I automatically thought of that old "office battle cry" because it absolutely does not have anything to do with working in a floral design shop in May. When Friday at 5 pm rolls around, it does not stop for us and as a matter of fact, things really heat up. Today we had many parties to set up, we're hot and heavy working on tomorrows 3 weddings (we had a small one today too) and I even got out to do a Floral Demonstration at D&R Greenway Land Trust for a couple of hours last night and this morning.  Here is designer is hard at work making Bridal Bouquets like this one for bride Jeri. Lavender and purple flowers hand tied ~ so elegant. We hope she loves it when she sees it tomorrow morning!    Roses, lisianthus, freesia, mini calla lilies... such an amazing combination for Spring.    Lots and lots of party floral cen...

Stock Flowers Right in the Fields of California

Image
Do you know that Stock is the name of an amazing flower? If you have read my blogs in the past, you may have seen it mentioned a time or two.  We use it all the time in our daily designs as well as our event and wedding work. Today we had the pleasure of being shown around Ocean View Farms in Lompac, Ca.  by Dan Vordale, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Dan was kind of enough to take time out of his day to show us around the farms!  I wanted to share some photos of the stock fields. Because I'm on vacation (I'm told I should do something other than talk or write about flowers) I'll be sure to  write a  more complete blog of what Kevin and I saw and learned at this amazing California Flower Farm but for now, I'll show you the Stock Farms!! What an amazing sight to see, rows and rows of this fragrant flower blowing in the breeze! Dan told us that although white is the best seller, all shades of purple are next in demand.  Dan explains to Ke...
