Another Hydrangea Post? You Bet!

Image
Planning a wedding is fun but expensive and I find that often brides & grooms over think their bridal flowers. Hydrangea to the rescue. Take these bouquets for example; simple but by no means small yet they are elegant, natural and as amazing as it sounds, quite budget friendly. In the case of these bouquets, extra touches such as chiffon ribbon and draping hanging amaranthus took them from boring to beautiful and only slightly added to the cost. Lesson to be learned here? No need to over think the flowers and by all means, take the budget friendly route. Your Maids won't mind, your guests won't notice and your wedding budget will love you for it! Beware of Not Budgeting for Your Wedding

Image
Wow, that sounds so ominous but truly, most couples that I meet have not given enough thought to how much they can spend on their wedding flowers. When you began your wedding planning , did you set an overall wedding budget for all elements needed for the day? If not, that could be a problem down the line. I won't tackle that in this blog because I'm not a wedding planner but this statement comes from years of seeing families struggle to come up with the money to have the wedding they envision. If you don't have a working budget in the beginning and don't allocate dollars for each item needed, you are definitely going to exceed what you can afford. Here's a great worksheet that shows you most, if not all of the elements needed in a wedding. Easy Budget Wedding Spreadsheet ~  I'm surprised how often couples tell me they are already over budget and did include a line item for flowers! That's like going into a car dealer and saying I have no money t

Wedding Flowers ~ Just for the Day? You Bet!

Image
It's just for the day! Yikes, we cringe every time someone says that to us while discussing wedding flowers . It's usually followed by "I don't want to spend a lot of money on them". Everything for your wedding day is for the day - you'll wear your gown once (but it will be in pictures), you'll listen to the DJ and dance (memories of fun that will last a lifetime) and you'll enjoy delicious food and drinks (hm, where is that the next day?).  Yes, flowers don't live forever (neither do people) but they do bring much to the "table" literally with regards to your wedding day. Take this wedding for Rhiannon and Joe ~ we had so much fun creating these fun wine themed centerpieces. They provided the mason jars and boxes and we did the rest.  Obviously they not only looked pretty on the tables but look what they did when they got them home? More than "Just for the day" don't you agree?

What is the Best Way To Spend $1,000?

Image
"I'm on a budget of about $1,000 for my wedding flowers. What's the best way to spend my money"?  Sound familiar? I get asked that question all the time and so I was inspired to write this blog.  I know it seems like a lot of money but if you need a bridal bouquet, 4 brides maids, flower girl, boutonnieres and corsages, altar decor and even centerpieces... wow, it can be a hard one to maneuver! My advise in this budget range would be to concentrate mostly on the personal flowers such as the bouquets, etc. Keep the flowers to one or two colors so that you can keep the bouquets smaller and more chic. Also, be sure to keep to seasonal flowers. No, peony are not in season in October - come on, I know you were thinking they were!! I'm going to hang a sign in our consultation room that says "spring flowers are mostly in season during the spring"!  It's ok to want pink flowers in November but with a little research you'll find that roses, lilies, carn
