  You've most likely heard the term   Plant   Parent. It just means that you take care of a plant and that you love it! Since Covid has locked many in their homes and kept them away from the office and other "indoor" space, folks have been loving becoming plant parents. Aside from the fact that living with   plants   in the home is healthy for you (they help to clean the air), taking care of a plant gives you something to look forward to. You watch your plant grown and thrive and you can take great pride by saying - "I did that"!  You might be surprised to find out that many men love picking out and receiving as  plants  as gifts. Our designer Alicia, who is an avid plant collector and since moving in with her boyfriend Erik, he's become a plant lover too. I have a confession to make. I love fairies. I also love angels. I also love anything miniature so you can imagine these little fairy gardens are perfect for me. Well, actually they are not for me, they are for our customers but I had fun making them.  What is a fairy garden?  A  Fairy Garden  is a miniature   garden   complete with structures and actual living plants. It is designed to give your green thumb a place to tend year-round and to lure  fairies  and with them, good luck, to your home. It's a tiny space created and tended with love.   Don't you think they adorable? The one above has a beach theme complete with a "mini" palm tree, sand and a gravel ocean.   This little fairy is enjoying her time in the garden complete with a pinwheel, colorful mushrooms, tiny polka dot plants and a wishing well.   This little gnome is lighting the way. Who's ready for Spring? Monday night our store hosted a hands on workshop showing how to create your very own bulb garden for the home. Lead Designer Alanna lead the class showing the students how to break apply stones for drainage, break the bulbs into multiple smaller plants and finally how to decorate the garden with moss and tiny little creatures such as butterflies and birds!  What topic would you like to see us cover in our next class? 

Can you believe the Christmas/Hanukkah season is over? I know I can't but I'm personally excited for the start of 2017! Every year at this time we revamp the shop, clean out the old and in with the new. January is always a great time to freshen up the home or office with plants which is why we bring in plants of all types and sizes.  Right now Succulent Plants are very popular and they make such nice gifts for pretty much an occasion. MMF Plant Care Tips: Bulbs and Orchids We have noticed that one of the things people most often ask about is plant care. I'm going to write a series of blogs with some basic plant care instructions. These are all plants we carry in our shops and want you to feel comfortable bringing one of beauties home! Bulb Plants are an easy and economical way to add color to your home and garden year after year. Sun Exposure: moderate, indirect light Care: ·          Keep soil moist, water thoroughly when water is dry to the touch, draining excess water. Replanting Bulbs: ·          Once the plant has stopped blooming, stop watering and wait for foliage to die back. ·          Once the foliage is dried out and brown, remove from bulb by gently tugging. If foliage does not pull off easily, you may not have waited as long as needed. Jeff has been with MMF for over 6 years, as our highly talented in-house graphic designer and a driver and event's setup person.  Jeff's first choice was a lady slipper orchid. Well, if the smiles are any indication, the children at the Harmony School in Princeton Forrestal Village really enjoyed their Terrarium making class hosted by our Designers Alanna and Norman. Norman could not get over how well behaved the children were, how bright and what a wonderful job they did. Future florists perhaps?  Designer Normans shows them how it's done.   The children were just too adorable for words.   And they were very proud of their creations! Not only did they learn about plants but they get to take them home. All in all, it was a wonderful day! Succulent Plants ~ what are they and how do you care for them by Alanna  Drzyzga Summer is approaching which makes me think about succulent plants. When they became popular last year we even held a terrarium making class featuring these easy to care for plants!  The plants that seem to be growing in popularity around the shop seem to be succulents; mostly because they are unique and virtually indestructible. We've blogged about them before and I’ll do it again. Hopefully this time with a little more insight. Succulents are categorized as any plant with a unique water storage organ. They store ingest water through their leaves, stems and roots. No matter what variety of succulents you are growing, including cacti, the general rules remain the same. It's funny how product we sell goes in cycles and right now folks are all wanting plants. As you may know, we make our own dish gardens, terrariums and planters and last week plants arrived from our Greenhouse Suppliers 3 times. Each time, they practically flew off the shelves with bromeliads, violets and mini calla lily plants being the best sellers.  Imagine Designer Norman's face when this new Terrarium House arrived on Friday. Doesn't it feel good to have natural , organic elements in your home and office? I truly think you feel better when you are surrounded by nature and air plants are a great addition to any setting. Are you away a lot? Do you have limited space to dedicate to plants? If so, air plants might be perfect for you. We've had fun stocking them in the store and folks are loving them. Take this mini hanging terrarium. For only $14.95 this plant is perfect for home or office. Hang in the window, over a sink or attach to a window with a suction cup. Here at the shop we are enjoying the succulent craze! In addition to using them in our every day floral arrangements and wedding designs, we sell plants here in the store. Folks love them because they are super cute and easy to care for. What better time than January and February to bring a bit of living art into your home or office right?   Last week our shipment of new terrarium glassware arrived and we were quick to make a few gardens with them. For this one I kept the succulent plant in it's own but and then added some loose stones. The lid helps create it's own little environment making watering a very rare thing! I also added a touch of burlap ribbon and raffia for a rustic feel. Tomorrow we have a new shipment of plants arriving. Why not pick out your own plants and container and let us put it together for you. With the winter cold outside, it's the perfect time to bring a little nature inside! 

We had so much fun with our first Terrarium Making Class that we have scheduled a second one for  September 12 - from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at our Princeton Store in Forrestal Village. What's it all about? Well you get to mingle with fun folks, drink wine, eat delicious local cheese from Tre Piani Restaurant and then make your very own Terrarium to bring home. With lots of elements to choose from you get to customize it to your home colors and decor. At a cost of $75, you'll agree, it's a great deal for a night of fun. Ask customer Martha (above)  who not only had a blast but made new friends (apparently her and Jean were having lunch the following week).
