Finding a Florist to Hand Deliver Fresh Flowers

Image
With all the confusion out there about sending a fresh flower floral gift, I'd like to clarify the best way to find a good florist. Let's say your want to send your mother a lovely floral arrangement for her birthday but she recently moved to a state you are not familiar with. You've never been there and you are not familiar with the florists in the area. In addition you don't want Mom to receive flowers that arrive in a box that she has to design herself. Here's 2 simple steps you can follow to find a good florist fast.   Let your favorite local florist help you. They may not be able to personally deliver but chances are they're part of a floral network of real brick & mortar flower shops that will gladly handle the delivery to your mother. It's called using a relay service. Shops relay to each other to handle out of town orders. We get orders into our shop from other florists and we send our customers orders to them. This relay is be

The Top 3 Things I've Learned Selling Flowers

Image
I live and breath flowers, flowers, flowers, flowers - it's what I think about all the time. No matter where I am or what I'm doing, if there are flowers there, I notice them. So obviously, I've learned a thing or two and these are the Top 3 Things I've learned About Selling Flowers!  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Flowers are like food. Some people love Escargot and will pay any price for them while others think of them as no better than a slug found in their garden.  Flowers are the same way - some folks will see the rare and unusual as something worthy of a high price tag, while others just don't see that appeal. Take the arrangement above for example: The roses are pretty common and affordable but the Dutch  Asclepias , the star shaped orange flowers are  much more unusual and rare, thus costing more. If you like them, you might pay for them, if you don't, you won't. It's as simple as that.  Sending flowers only to say you are sor

Stock It Is!

I know I have blogged about this amazing flower in the past but after creating a wedding last week (see video in previous blog) using just this single, amazing flower, I felt inspired to talk about it again. If you've never seen "Stock" in person, it's a staple for most florists. Because of it's strong line form it's a wonderful to add length and height to a design. Looking for a lovely flower that grows in shades of pink, fucsha, purple and even burgundy? You have them all in stock. We especially love using the white and rich cream colored stock in our wedding designs. Sometimes misunderstood because of it's ruffly florets, it's important to remember that the buds open from the bottom of the stem upward. As the buds at the tippy top open, the buds at the bottom may turn brown and even fall off. Like other flowers such as lilies, this is the normal blooming progression of this flower from bottom to top and does not mean the flower is bad or old. As t

Want a cup of coffee?

I love exploring how flowers look in the home. Here at the shop we see flowers all day long but exactly how are they displayed once received by happy folks lucky enough to be send a floral gift? This cute arrangement made by designer Rocio was just perfect in my own kitchen. In case you can't tell, blue is my favorite color as you can see when you visit our shop website http://www.sendingsmiles.com/ What I love about a floral gift like this one is that long after the flowers are gone, the coffee mug lives on to be used over and over. I'm envisioning a sweet little ivy plant or a cute "chicks and hen" succulent in there after the flowers are gone. Perhaps I'll just use it for a big cup of coffee! The next time you need to send a gift, we sincerely hope you'll consider a floral gift like this one! To see more of our floral gifts visit our website at http://www.sendingsmiles.com/
