Teaching Floral Design to Seniors

Image
One of the best parts about being a florist is sharing the gift of flowers with others. Going out to Senior Centers and Schools are one of favorite things to do, especially at the start of summer. This past week Designer Alanna and Designer Alex lead a class of over 50 senior citizens at the Plainsboro Community Center. Each participant was able to create their very own floral basket.  Sharing the basic principles of design using hardy but colorful blooms, Alanna lead the group in making their own basket centerpieces. Using the colorful combination of daisies, baby's breath and mini carnations, each student took home their creation.   Interested in having us come out to your location to teach a class? Contact us at 609-520-2005 to discuss and we'd be thrilled to work with you!  Don't forget our next floral design class at our Princeton Flower Shop is June 25th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. A few openings are still available so call today to reserve or click here to

Design Classes ~ Creating a Succulent Plant Garden

Image
We haven't had too many floral design classes on Sundays but yesterday's class was a big success. Creating Succulent Plant Gardens was the topic and as you can see we had some very talented students!  Of course, we can't let our students design on an empty stomach so we provided some light snacks and wine. We feel the wine always helps the students and relax and let their inner floral designer shine through. Well, that might be stretching it but we stand by our wine and food choices!  Cynthia and her friend Silvana each pose with their masterpieces! Each student would choose an upgraded glass container like these above or below for an additional cost.   Or they could use these awesome moss and wicker baskets, which were included in the class fee.   Each student was provided with soil, different styles of moss and river stones in 3 different colors to choose from. I think they all did a great job, don't you?  Lori is very proud of what she created! Sh

Cake Floral Design Class

Image
Not to be confused with baking a cake this month we hosted another Floral Design Class where we made a cake out of fresh flowers! The class this time was small but mighty and we had a great time, as usual!  Because the Flower Cake concept as a class was mine, I agree to do the teaching this time. Actually it was to give Alanna and break and Holly was under the weather but as you can see from my demo piece above, I did an OK job, even if I am a bit rusty in the design area.   As per usual I began getting the food ready ~ just light snacks this time; cheese and crackers, sausage, trail mix, potato chips along with red and white wine. All items beside the wine are actually sold at the shop and used in our gourmet basket creations.   Next I set up each design area for each student. We used flower cake forms as the form, although we did not use them wet. Our concept was to teach them to use the base as something they could use over and over, while switching out the top with fre
