Funeral Wreath with Sunflowers

Image
It's summer and the weather outside is hot (with a storm brewing as I type this). In addition to lots of wedding and party flowers being designed, we've had multiple family funerals this week, including this piece for delivery tomorrow. Designing funeral pieces can be both rewarding and sad but we sincerely hope that the flowers we create bring comfort to the families who receive them. This wreath is being delivered to Fire Company for a memorial service. The sender requested a blue, yellow and white theme and Designer Alanna used an assortment of cremone mums, hydrangea, daisies, sunflowers and baby's breath. Measuring 28" wide on an elegant white wooden stand, this piece should look lovely among the other flowers at the memorial.

Tropical Cascade

Image
I admit that Cascade Bridal Bouquets have not made the big comeback that I expected a few years ago but every now and then we get to create one. Last weekend we were able to design this beauty with a topical theme for our bride Angela. The story behind this bouquet (and there is always a story behind a bridal bouquet) is that Angela and her true love Keehan are actually getting married in the Bahamas. With lots of family, friends and fellow church members, they felt compelled to have a ceremony in New Jersey, hence the tropical theme. Angela's bridal bouquet was created by our Lead Floral Stylist Alanna and consisted of Starfighter lilies, dendrobium orchids, bird of paradise, mini calla lilies flowers along with lily grass, spiral and silver dollar  eucalytpus, ruscus and podocarpus foliages! The bouquet turned out stunning and we think, ever prettier than the inspiration photo provided by Angela and her sister Donchell (who is a wedding planner we work with on occasion)....

Sending Flowers to the Funeral or to the Home?

Image
One of the most asked questions is "Should I send flowers to the service or to the home" and although either one can be appreciated, they are very different. With the time between the death and funeral services getting shorter and shorter (sometimes less than 3 days) it's becoming harder for folks to make arrangements to attend a service. Of course, most want to express their sympathy in some way, so sending flowers is a thoughtful way to do that. The flowers sent to the service are often highly personalized, especially those coming from direct family members. Favorite flowers and colors are often requested and personal items or even hobbies can be included. Flowers and plants sent directly for the funeral home or church help provide a backdrop and atmosphere for the service. They represent the person who has passed while gifts sent directly the home are meant to express feelings of support towards the survivors. The next question we often get is "What...

Floral Management Magazine Coverage

Image
It's always an honor to be included in an industry magazine and that's exactly what happened in the April/May issue of Floral Management magazine. Our shop was shown in all it's glory in a column called Shop Snapshot. I think it's looking rather amazing if I do say so myself!! Our Lead Designer Alanna even made the Employee Spotlight where she talks about her love for the industry, what it's like working at Monday Morning Flowers and where she sees the future of floral shops going. She's always saying she wants to be famous so I think is a pretty good start. Congratulations Alanna on some fabulous coverage!  Lastly there was some coverage of yours truly. Yikes - bad hair day for sure! In case you were wondering, the whole cover story is not about MMF, it features many other great florists such as Timpton & Hurst, Memorial Florists & Greenhouses and  Gallo & Son's Florist  And of course, we can't forget Kevin!   And here are a few sh...

Fairy Gardens

Image
I have a confession to make. I love fairies. I also love angels. I also love anything miniature so you can imagine these little fairy gardens are perfect for me. Well, actually they are not for me, they are for our customers but I had fun making them.  What is a fairy garden?  A  Fairy Garden  is a miniature   garden   complete with structures and actual living plants. It is designed to give your green thumb a place to tend year-round and to lure  fairies  and with them, good luck, to your home. It's a tiny space created and tended with love.   Don't you think they adorable? The one above has a beach theme complete with a "mini" palm tree, sand and a gravel ocean.   This little fairy is enjoying her time in the garden complete with a pinwheel, colorful mushrooms, tiny polka dot plants and a wishing well.   This little gnome is lighting the way. Can't you imagine his standing at the lakes edge guiding a row boa...

No Two the Same ~ Our 3 for $20 Bouquets

Image
One year ago we introduced our new "3 for $20" bunch program into the shop. 7 days a week you can come in to choose the prettiest fresh flowers ~ one bunch for $10 or three bunches for $20. Mixing and matching is super easy and we have almost as much fun seeing what the customer put together as they do!  Once the customer decides on their flower choices, one of our designers hand ties the bouquet together, wraps in pretty paper and adds a delicate ribbon bow.  Sunflowers, orange carnations and white daisies. Don't you love the combo?  White daisy, green hydrangea and pink alstroemeria.
