Flowers in the Sun at Palmer House

Image
Who's ready for some warm weather? We are, we are! This week we had quite a few floral events including this one at Palmer House in Princeton. Just looking at this picture makes me happy! Look at those amazing azalea bush in the background! Hey and the floral centerpieces look pretty good too!   Don't you just love the colors on these centerpieces? Hydrangeas, roses, protea, carnations and feverfew.

Finally, the Sun is Out!

Image
With all the terrible things going on in the world today, it certainly is not a good idea for me to complain about my little pleasant world but it's so nice to finally have a semi-warm day with a shining sun. Here at the shop in Princeton Forrestal Village we are recovering from a very busy Administrative Professionals Holiday week and getting the store ready for Mother's Day . It's always fun when the weather clears up enough for us to place some of our plants and gift ware outside.  If you would like to see all our new Mother's Day offerings for 2015, feel free to check out website at www.sendingsmiles.com . Take peek at both our Mother's Day and Mother's Day Premium categories for great gift ideas. We hope to serve you soon!!

Our Balloons in Action

Image
You may remember a few months back Kevin wrote a blog post about how balloons make people happy and so this photo came quickly to mind. Last week a customer came in and said she wanted balloons for later in the day to be delivered to her home for her son's 10th Birthday. http://www.sendingsmiles.com/princeton-plainsboro-trenton-florist/birthday-flowers-and-gifts-11334c.asp?topnav=LeftNav She wanted something bright and colorful, plus she wanted her son to be Wow'd. I'm thinking that Jack was pretty speechless when these rainbow colored balloon tree were delivered.  We love when customers share photos and being she stopped in the next morning to let us know how happy Jack was, plus shared a photo, really plays to the fact that Balloons truly make people happy! Want to send a balloon bouquet to someone you know? Visit our website at www.sendingsmiles.com and link onto the Balloon Bouquet category!

Yellow Bee Honey

Image
We may be a florist shop but we sell lots of other items, especially things that make great gifts and one of them is locally harvested honey from Yellow Bee Honey of Lawrenceville. Show below with our tea related items such as tea cups, tea pots and tea steeps. These are 8 oz in squeezable bottles.   We also have wonderfully fragrant Honey scented candles from Aunt Sadie's Candle Company of Vermont. These are paired with the more vintage looking bottles of Yellow Bee Honey.  We also sell many of these bottles in our Fruit and Gourmet Food baskets , which make a great gift for just about any occasion.  When reordering plush animals and bears we couldn't resist these adorable little guys complete with their own honey pots!  Add a spring flower arrangement and that is sure to brighten up anyone's day!  Do you know someone who loves honey? Then we have some great gift ideas for you! To see all our new arrivals, be sure to visit our Facebook Page often!

5 Valentine's Day Questions Answered!

Image
•Do the roses I give on Valentine's Day have to be Red? NO! People love receiving roses in other colors such as peach, pink, yellow and lavender. You don't even have to send Roses. Mixed spring bouquets are the next most popular choice to send on Valentine's Day from our shop. •Does my flower gift have to be a huge bouquet of flowers and cost a lot?  Of course not! A single bloom you picked out by hand at your local florist will mean just as much as a whole dozen of roses . Your flower purchase should be relative to what you feel is comfortable for you to spend. There are many options to choose from. Save some real dough by checking out our promotion codes at the bottom of this e-mail! •Why do red flowers seem to cost more during the holiday? Simple supply and demand. Not enough supply and high demand.Go with the crowd and send red flowers or stand out by being creative and most likely, you'll save some money. •What are some other great gift ideas

Tulips or Should We Say Tulip

Image
As a floral shop owner, I love flowers but it's true, as the cobbler has no shoes, often I don't bring flowers home. I probably shouldn't admit that but because I'm surrounded by gorgeous blooms all day long and work 12 hour days, it often doesn't occur to me to grab a bunch when I head out for the evening. Yesterday as the hubby and I closed up for the night, I grabbed a bunch of tulips (one of my all time favorites to bring home) and after cooking and eating dinner, I pulled out a favorite vase to arrange them.  While doing so, I broke a head ~ Oh no! Never fear, look how sweet this single bloom looks in a cute little vase. I posted this picture on my Facebook and within minutes had 20 likes. The power of flowers. Sometimes all it takes is one single flower to brighten a day.  Do you currently follow us on Social Media? January ~ Party Time!

Image
Believe it or not, January is quite a busy month for our shop with party centerpieces - both flowers and balloons. Although we don't often do January weddings, the types of events that we decorate for early in the year range from social events such as birthday parties and Sweet Sixteens to Corporate events such as post holiday parties and sales kick off events. Here's a peek at just a few of the events we decorated for this week!  Folks love vibrant colors in January.   Created for a 50th birthday party , these centerpieces are sure to amaze the folks who see them at Rho Restaurant in Trenton.   These Asian style centerpieces will be placed 2 on each table with origami birds strung between at Ruth Chris Steakhouse here in Princeton.   A company celebration , these were delivered to north east Philly - both floral centerpieces and balloon floor bouquets . Don't you just love the blue and green combination?   Well, there you have it, just a few of this

Balloons are Therapeutic~ by Kevin

Image
Balloons can be therapeutic! So far this has been a very busy year for our Company installing Balloon Décor. If you follow us on Facebook , Instagram , Twitter or various other Social media sites I'm sure you've seen the many posts and pictures of our Balloon decorations.   Recently, I was on site creating a balloon arch and as always, many people stop by to ask questions about what we do, how we do it, how long we've been Balloon decorators etc. Every time I stop and talk to the curious onlookers I notice one thing in common - everyone is smiling as they look at the Balloons ! This made me think how cool our profession is and also how much fun and pleasure it brings our customers. Some of the comments and questions I've heard from people have been: That's so cool. I'd love to do that. I remember when I was a kid..... My Uncle, Father, Brother use to give me a balloon every.... I love Balloons That's my favorite color. Ho

The Art of Floral Design

Image
We understand the average consumer sending flowers , loves the idea of "seeing" what they will be sending out as their floral gift but the flip side, is that each floral arrangement is hand crafted and hand designed. Matching pictures on our website requires both attention to detail and the having in stock at all time wide selection of flowers . Whew, that's hard work!!  Above is our designers version of one of our best sellers on our website and I have to say that not only did she do a great job, I think the actual arrangement she created far exceeded the "stock photo" arrangement we display on our website. Imagine having this beautifully fresh floral design arriving to your desk? We think it would make you might happy, right?  In my next blog, I'll show some of our unique and one of a kind arrangements created for our customers this week! Until then, feel free to check out our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/localflorist or our website at ww

A Church Wedding

Image
Believe it or not, most of the weddings we design these days are NOT held in Churches. With more and more weddings ceremonies taking place in parks, ballrooms and under gazebo's, it's always a change of pace to decorate a beautiful church. From this past weekend, bride and groom Lindsay and Chris were married in this lovely church in Morrisville, PA.  Keeping with the theme of blue and white, Design Manager Holly created 2 elegant floral displays to be placed up on the altar. Hybrid delphinium, hydrangea, thistle, green button mums and elegant foliage's and bells of Ireland combine for a lovely combination of texture and color.   Kevin did a nice job of decorating the pews with a single blue hydrangea bloom accented with a soft green ribbon. Pew flowers and bows are always a nice way to decorate for a wedding and welcome your guests closer to altar for your ceremony. An aisle runner rests at the foot of the altar waiting to be rolled down the aisle just as Lindsay

Teaching Floral Design to Seniors

Image
One of the best parts about being a florist is sharing the gift of flowers with others. Going out to Senior Centers and Schools are one of favorite things to do, especially at the start of summer. This past week Designer Alanna and Designer Alex lead a class of over 50 senior citizens at the Plainsboro Community Center. Each participant was able to create their very own floral basket.  Sharing the basic principles of design using hardy but colorful blooms, Alanna lead the group in making their own basket centerpieces. Using the colorful combination of daisies, baby's breath and mini carnations, each student took home their creation.   Interested in having us come out to your location to teach a class? Contact us at 609-520-2005 to discuss and we'd be thrilled to work with you!  Don't forget our next floral design class at our Princeton Flower Shop is June 25th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. Although they look wonderful with other flowers, they especially look nice just by themselves. Don't forget about wedding designs. They dramatic flowers look amazing in wedding bouquets and centerpieces, not to mention on wedding cakes, like the ones pictured below.  Looking to send flowers to cheer someone up?
