Flower Centerpieces on a Tight Budget

Would you like centerpieces at your next party but not sure if you can afford them? Here's some tips to keep the cost down and still have beautiful flowers!

  1. Be flexible on the flower selection; the most economical way to order flowers is to ask for flowers in a color theme, not by flower varieties. As florists, we buy flowers week in and week out directly from our farm sources. They often come in solid flower types but in mixed colors. Buying this way keeps the cost down because we are ordering large quantities in advance allows the farms to sell a lot in whatever color they have blooming at that time. When a florist buys in small quantities by certain colors, the price per stem can be double or even triple the case pricing. Keep in mind, that this only works for smaller orders. If you need 25 centerpieces that all look the same, special buying may be necessary, thus raising the cost.
  2. Let the designer suggest what will give you the biggest presentation given your budget. If they tell you that a low dish filled with floral foam and pretty foliage as a base is the way to go, take their suggestion. If they say a glass bowl with a single type of large bloom such as hydrangea will give you the best show, then be open to going that direction. You are hiring an expert, don't over think the advise the give you.
  3. Don't expect to receive premium blooms in your designs unless you are willing to pay for that rarity. A talented floral designer can take common flowers and create something beautiful. Choose a color theme that fits your event and let the designer use whatever flowers are in season and fit your budget.
The arrangements above are a perfect example of a client who wanted bright colors to match a company logo but had a tight budget. She was open to the flowers being used and the container but our designer was still able to created gorgeous designs for only $25 per table.
Here's another example of client who had a tight budget but was willing to use one large flower in a black plastic cube vase. Accented with a faux rhinestone band, these were perfect for their theme (80's Formal Prom) but still came in at only $30 per table.
