What Is International Women's Day?  This coming Tuesday, March 8th is International Women’s Day . Started in 1909, the first Women's Day honored the 129 women who died in a factory fire in Chicago. In 1914 the Holiday was officially observed on March 8th and has remained that date since and seeks to  raise political and social awareness of the struggles of women. More than 100 nations recognize Women’s Day (35 declared it a national holiday) with thousands of events held by organizations, governments, charities, educational institutions, women’s groups, corporations and the media. People give flowers and other small gifts to their mothers, wives, grandmothers and daughters, as well as coworkers, teachers, and friends to show respect, appreciation and love.  Very popular in throughout Eastern Europe and Asia the holiday has been described as a combination of Mother's Day and Valentine's Day.   The flower most often associated with Women&#

MMF Staff Favorites: Alanna Alanna is our Customer Care coordinator and has been with the company for 5 years this Spring.  When I came out to our showroom Alanna was already holding this cool terrarium made by our newest colleague Jeneen . "Terrariums are fun because they are a little ecosystem you can have right on your desk, and the cover makes it even easier to care for because it holds the condensation." Did you know we have European style hand-tied bouquets available at both our locations ready for you to choose and take with you in a hurry? Alanna liked this one highlighting Protea from South Africa and Freesia. Spring is almost here and we have been getting in some amazing flowers. Alanna (and the rest of us) loved this lavender Sweetpea! We get in new flowers from local sources and all over the world on a daily basis, stop in to see what goodies are available today. :) Thanks Alanna!

Staff Favorites: Jeneen Today I asked Jeneen to share some of her favorite items in the store. Jeneen is our newest MMF staff member finishing her third week with us and we are so happy to have her, especially this week! ;) The first thing Jeneen gravitated toward was some of the amazing flowers we got in this week from Japan! Here she is holding one of our gorgeous jumbo anemones and one of the largest ranunculous we have seen in a while. "Everyone thinks Valentine's Day and automatically assumes red roses, but we forget there are hundreds of stunning and unique flowers that can make a statement even more powerful than the traditional red rose."  A great way to add a finishing touch to a gift is with delicious chocolates. We carry artisanal  chocolates from Oregon made by Moonstruck and they are definitely one of Jeneen's favorite gourmet foods we carry. If you're not sure what to get someone for a gift besides flowers, we off

Today we are highlighting more MMF staff favorites. This time from Jeff  and George ! Jeff has been with MMF for over 6 years, as our highly talented in-house graphic designer and a driver and event's setup person.  Jeff's first choice was a lady slipper orchid. Orchids are easy to care for, will re-bloom throughout the year and a gift that gives long lasting beauty.  Jeff must really like plants! His second choice was a succulent and he said he especially is captivated by the succulent's flowers that appear after a few months of proper care. We offer a chic and modern succulent garden that would make the perfect gift for a man or woman, Apparently everyone loves stuffed animals , including this adorable owl that is a new item in the shop. Be sure to give us a call if you are interested in one of these more unique plush friends, what is displayed on the website is only a small selection. Our driver George also gravitated tow

Our Store Remodel

Image
If you have been in our shop over the last few days you may notice a few changes. It was time and we we're all so excited for the New Year to arrive! The first part of the remodel was to remove our dated, over sized walk in/display cooler. Folks seem surprised that we wanted to remove this unit but we had some very good reasons. It was 18 years, it had a slow leak that required either $11,000 worth of repairs or $1,000 worth of freon every 3 to 4 months. The most compelling reason for removing this cooler was because although it looked brand new from the outside, it was actually now too big for our needs. Most of customers are unaware that when we expanded 9 years ago, we added another large walk in cooler measuring 12 feet by 15 feet which is more than an enough refrigeration space for our needs. A new large 2 door cooler will be replacing the one we took out but see below for how open and airy the shop looks now! We're really having fun displaying more plants, gardens and
