Orchid Plants and How to Care for Them!

Image
How many times have I heard - "I had an orchid plant once and I killed it"! Well, I can tell you I've heard it more times than I can count. What I tell people is that no, you did not kill it, it bloomed, it ran it's natural course and while you thought it was dead and threw it away, it was actually alive, looking for nourishment, ready to burst forth and bloom again! This blog is designed to make you feel better so that you know you didn't really kill them, they were just sleeping. Thank you so our employee Melissa for writing this blog! Her background in horticulture made her a natural. And my shameless plug is please remember that we sell gorgeous orchid plants and that they make wonderful gifts.  Take it away Melissa!! Did you know that there are over 30,000 of regular species and when you throw in hybrids it comes to over 140,000 worldwide, with more species being discovered and created each day? The most popular orchids that are grown in most homes are P

Amanda Bouquet

Image
Last weekend saw us creating and delivering 5 weddings. How do we do it you might wonder but honestly, at this time of year the pace slows down quite a bit, allowing us to take on more than normal in the way of weddings. Thank goodness for these happy occasions during the summer to keep us stimulated and rejuvenated. This bouquet was created for bride Amanda and if her thumbs up on our Facebook Page - www.facebook.com/localflorist are any indication, she was happy with the gorgeous, fresh bridal bouquet we created for her. Roses in shades of deep pink and orange, deep plum colored carnations, mini viking poms and medium size sunflowers, an accent of orange lilies, limonium and buplurium and you have one, colorful summer bouquet! Roses to Go

Image
Roses, roses and more roses. Did you know that roses are still the most popular flowers in the whole (yes, the whole wide) world? Well, they are and with good reason. They come in so many gorgeous colors, they have long, straight stems (at least the florist grade ones do) and they last longer than other flowers (iris and peony only last 3 days in a vase). This past weekend we sent out this order to one special young lady. Four huge vases, each filled with 2 dozen long stem roses. Yes, that's 8 dozen roses - Wow! My partner in crime made the delivery and it caused quite a stir. I can only imagine that this special delivery will be remembered for a long, long time! The Story of Cherie's Bouquet

Image
It's not all the time that we get to do wild and crazy things with flowers but boy did we ever get to do that with Cherie's flowers in May. Don't you just love the natural feel of her bouquet? Roses, berries, callas, arabicum, soft green hanging amaranthus, hydrangea, loops of curly willow vine and galax leaves all combine to be anything but boring! The brides maids carried simple cream hydrangea which looked so pretty against their soft, antique lavender dresses. The men's boutonnieres were green hypericum with a double galax leaf treatment behind. The amazing and unusual - Grounds for Sculpture of Trenton was the setting for the ceremony. A wedding made in heaven if you ask me! To see more of this wedding check out the "Photos Sent By Our Brides" album on our Fan Page at www.facebook.com/localflorist or visit our wedding website at www.perfectweddingflowers.com A special thanks to Reena Rose and Erin Hoyt for their amazing photography!

This Weeks Weddings...

Image
It is completely, impossible to get bored around here. This weekend had us doing three, completely different weddings and what great fun they were. We are also excited about our wedding designs but this week was especially gratifying. The bouquet above was created for our bride Danielle and was the coolest, funkiest bouquet we've been able to create since our Funky Peacock Feather bouquet. A hand tied mixture of mini callas, cymbidium orchids, mokara orchids, crespedia, pincushion protea,  limonium and the ever cool uluhe. What do you think of it? This next bouquet was created for the maid of honor for Pierre and Yves. The overall color theme for the wedding was Sunbeam, Tangerine and Guava with each girl carrying the opposite colors to their dress. This bouquet included all three colors as the maid of honor was wearing champagne. The rose varieties used were Gelosia (for the sunbeam yellow), Tropical Amazon (for the tangerine) and Movie Star for the (guava coral). With colors lik

Orange is Hot!

Taking a peek into our floral cooler both last and this week you would see a sea of orange wedding flowers. Take these pretty bouquets from last weekends wedding for bride Diana's brides maids. The perfect "Princeton" themed flowers to compliment a "Blair Arch" ceremony on Princeton University Campus. Not all weddings and daily flower orders follow the Princeton black and orange theme but orange truly is popular right now and looking at these lovely blooms you can see why! What a happy color, don't you think? To see more of our recent floral, party and wedding designs, check out our Fan Page at www.facebook.com/localflorist
