To Coral or Not to Coral ~ that is the color question

Image
No color has been more confusing to me over the years than coral. Described as a redish or pinkish shade of orange (gee, that's helpful) it remains a very popular color choice for wedding designs. No matter what you call it, this pretty "shade" has been in heavy use this wedding season and I've met with couples for 2016 who are also asking about this pretty color theme. Take the wedding flowers above created for a wedding this weekend. Amsterdam Roses, Bismark Gerbera, Brilliant Coral Spray rose and peach/coral hypericum berries combine to create one striking combination, don't you think? Would you consider this color theme for your wedding ?

Gold as a Wedding Trend

Image
As they will do, Wedding Trends come and go and an upcoming trend I've noticed for the balance of 2015 into 2016 is the trend of using gold in the wedding designs. Whether is touches of gold foliage or gold toned bowls and dishes, the warm tones of gold seem to be in style for both summer and winter weddings.  Last weekend's wedding included touches of gold foliage and berries mixed among the peach, pink and cream colored flowers. These centerpieces really looked gorgeous among the warm tones of the chairs and carpet.  I can't wait to see the photographers professional photos from this wedding!

Some of our Summer Flower Favorites!

Image
Can you believe it's already August 7th? We sure can't! This week has been a busy one for us creating floral designs for 3 gorgeous weddings and lots of daily deliveries. Take this floral design for example. Garden and tea roses, hydrangeas, orchids, hypericum berries, asiatic lilies and queen anne's lace combine to make a stunning floral centerpiece for a birthday party being held at Jasna Polana Country Club tomorrow.  Brightly colored flowers are not only popular for daily deliveries but today's wedding consisted of pinks, creams and peaches. Saturday's wedding is simple shades of white, greens and creams and Sunday we'll be using all white, lavender and purple flowers. If you received flowers right now, what color would you want them to be? Know someone having a birthday? Why not send them a bouquet of gorgeous flowers from our shop ? We'd love to help you... Send Them a Smile !

Will This Wedding Trend Continue into 2015?

Image
What is the trend you ask? Using lots and lots of Baby's Breath. Some folks love it, some folks hate but I don't think any wedding professional can say that using Baby's Breath wasn't a major floral trend in 2014, because it probably was the biggest trend all year. Personally, I love Baby's Breath and had a given that flowers with a natural and vintage feel were all the rage this past year, I was happy to provide my couples with the flowers of their dreams. That being said, some of floral designer friends became, shall we say, a bit bored by the use of so much of this flower . My feelings were probably a bit more neutral on the subject as I thought the simple look of this pretty flower is both affordable and timeless.  In the case of this wedding , the bridal party was quite large and that translates into heavy dollars to give each girl a bouquet. In the case of the Baby's Breath bouquets, they give a nice full look for a low investment.  Lookin

My Top 3 Tips to Save Money on Your Wedding Flowers

Image
1 - Bigger is not always better. If you think a big bride's maids bouquets  or big centerpieces are the only way to go, then think again. Is it really worth going into debt to have large wedding flowers that you can't afford? I say no! I think when couples spend more than they should it's not because a florist talked them into it, it's because they may not have been open to suggestions. An example would be these very simple centerpieces from last weekends wedding. Long tables needed more than one floral arrangement to look full. A few well placed votive candles and with 3 simple babies breath with a single rose vases help to fill out the table and play to the country theme of the event.  Need help budgeting? Read out blog on how to budget correctly HERE . 2 -  Larger flowers cost less in the long run than more expensive tiny ones Have you ever wondered why a certain flower seems to be so expensive even if it's tiny? Size has nothing to do with cost.

Baby's Breath and Rose Bridal Bouquet

Image
Say what you want about baby's breath because here at the shop it's been a staple for weddings for the past year and the trend appears to be continuing into 2015. Case in point for bride Louise's wedding this weekend. Her bridal bouquet was created of elegant and traditional ivory roses called Vendela and baby's breath. The variety of baby's breath used has bright white florets that are full and open. Combined in her bouquet , they give her the soft and romantic bouquet she loved. Having grown up in England, Louise's love of baby's breath flowed over into the centerpieces as well. Such a lovely flowers for all seasons and a trend that we fully expect to continue for weddings next year. What do you think of this bouquet and the use of baby's breath in wedding arrangement? Sharing a Spring Wedding

Image
Nothing makes us happier than when brides share their wedding flowers with us. Not only do we get to view our flowers in action but it's a special treat to see the bride and groom on their special day.  As you can see from the stunning photo below our bride Katie and her handsome husband had the perfect Spring Day for their wedding at the Lambertville Inn this past May. Katie and Michael both dazzled and their flowers complimented them beautifully, wouldn't you agree.   My favorite part of this wedding were their sweet centerpieces. Created using lavender roses, waxflowers, freesia and lilacs, they literally smelled like heaven. The new ballroom at the Lambertville Inn was the perfect setting for this simple but elegant floral design.  The view from the new ballroom was amazing ~ with the river and trees, the guests must have really been in awe of the setting.   To see these and other floral designs created by Monday Morning Flowers be sure to visit our We

Ranunculus Flowers

Image
Ranunculus, one of the most asked for flowers by our brides , these soft ruffled blooms made great a great addition to hand tied bouquets. This week has us using these amazing pink ones in our design work and they are so beautiful, wouldn't you agree?  The Meaning and Symbolism of Ranunculus Native to Asia and celebrated for their medicinal properties as well as their amazing bright beauty, the small camellia like ranunculus ranges from white to pink, red to yellow to orange. Also known as Buttercut and Coyotes eyes, legend has it that the mythological Coyote was tossing eyes up in the air and then catching them when an Eagle flew by and snatched them up. Unable to see, Coyote created eyes from a Buttercup.  Flowers make amazing gifts for Summer Birthday, Get Well or just to say "Thinking of You". An Interview with photographer Kyo Morishima

Image
An interview by Georgianne, owner of Monday Morning Flowers , with the incredible photographer Kyo Morishima Kyo, tell us a bit about your back ground and how you got into photography? I was born and raised in Japan. After I graduated from high school, I was looking for something fun and meaningful to do. So I came to the U.S., even though I wasn’t sure what I would find and I didn’t speak any English. I took English classes at a community college and also happened to take a Photo 101 class. I enjoyed it a lot (and I failed it because my English was so bad that I didn’t understand I had to be present for the final critique). I decided to go to art school in Washington D.C. After I graduated with my B.F.A. in photography, I moved to New York City. How long have you been doing wedding photography and what made you specialize in this area? I started off shooting street and documentary photography. The reason why I love that kind of photography is because I love to capture

A Christmas Wedding

Image
We love when our families share pictures right away with us, like this past Saturdays wedding. A winter white wedding held during Christmas at St. Paul's in Princeton and then on the Nassau Inn in Palmer Square, both settings looked amazing for the holiday season.  I especially loved Kate's elegant tear drop shaped bouquet of white roses, orchids, stephanotis and peony.  With a sea of Rich Red Poinsettia's Kate and her Flower girl share a little lovin'!   The flower girls wand of roses and deep gold tinted ruscus foliage with streaming ribbons. Actually easier to carry than you might think, we bet she felt like a princess for the day.   The escort card table stood tall and elegant to greet the guests.  The centerpieces were styled half tall and half low. This one was created with cascading orchids and gold Italian ruscus.   The low centerpieces were designed in a wreath arrangement with a bowl of floating candles int he center. These must have look

Colorful Fall Wedding Flowers

Image
It's mid October and it's finally beginning to feel like fall ~ just in time for this weekends weddings. Our bride Rebecca chose brightly colored oranges, yellows and rich reds for her wedding flower color palate and we could not have been happier with the the finished looks of these amazing bouquets. Below is the Bride's Maids bouquets of roses, spray roses, berries and solidago.  Rebecca's bouquet included soft ivoy Vendela rose that really lightened up the overall colors in her bouquet. Relying heavily on roses, this bouquet really speaks to the month of October in NJ!   Another pretty shot of Rebecca'as Bouquets . The two toned roses are called Circus and are one of our favorites all year round and especially lovely to use in our wedding designs.   Our designers finishes the bouquets and then moves on to creating the "wearable" flowers such as the boutonnieres and corsages.   To see these and more of our wedding designs be sure to v

An October Flower Shop Scene

Busy, busy, busy ~that's all I can say. With 6 weddings this weekend the designers have been hard at work and so I thought I'd share! Below Design Manager Holly is making some wheat  centerpieces tied with pretty brown and orange ribbon, perfect for a country wedding.  These centerpieces are for the same wedding but are a different style centerpiece going on the parents tables. They are lushly filled wreath arrangements filled with mums, roses, gerbers, berries and more. In the center will be a tall cylinder vase with a floating candles. So pretty, don't you think?   Below are the bouquets for bride Jennifer. After a few false starts with roses that were not up out high standard, these Purple Haze roses came in looking lush and lovely. They will match her bride's maids dresses exactly!  Love the peach mini callas in the bridal bouquet too.  Bride Nakia will be getting some of these lovely David Austin roses in her bridal bouquet . I wish you could sm

Wonder How They Grow

Image
Last weekends wedding for Lorrie had us using lots of fresh, natural flowers such as astilbe, fever fews and tons and tons of baby's breath. One of the flowers used in the table centerpieces and Lorrie's pretty bouquet was Queen Anne's lace grown in California. Ever wonder where those beautiful flowers we use in our everyday and wedding designs come from? For us, we love buying from Cali because of the quality, selection and the fact that they are USA Grown. Not many flowers are with most cut flowers sold in the USA coming from outside our country. Any opportunity I get to "Buy Local" US flowers, I jump at the chance. As you can see from the photo to the left, Lorries' flowers came out amazing and it's even more gratifying for me to have seen some of the amazing farm land that grow these amazing varieties. We may be located in New Jersey but we get in the most amazing flowers from all over the world and this picture proves it!   To see this and mor

A Weekend of Summer Weddings

Image
Today's weddings were so pretty we had to share. I know you may get confused because both weddings had similar flowers and colors but each was customized to the couples design ideas. Below is the wedding cake for our Bride Jessica. To say that she was "hands on" and so was her mother is an understatement. This cake was not only decorated by our Designer Alanna but Jessica's mother took control and toss a few blooms on their too!  Jessica's centerpieces were oval shaped designs that were left loose and airy in gold mercury footed bowls. Very elegant and stately, even with the fun loving balloons in the background leading guests to the tented area.   This bouquet was created for our bride Leslie - ranunculus, garden, tea and spray roses with dahlias in shades of creams, peaches and pinks. So pretty, don't you think?   My favorite piece from the weekend, the fireplace mantle for Leslie's wedding. So elegant, country, vintage... You get the vibe!
