An Interview with Dave Hoeffel - DJ Genius!

Image
Dave Hoeffel is an amazing disc jockey and great friend.  With his experience, passion, and success in the music industry - we just had to pick his brain!  Owner of Sound Choice DJ's, Dave has been a top pick for WeddingWire and The Knot, while he brings music to millions through Sirius XM Radio.  Here's what he has to say: Tell us a bit about yourself, Sound Choice DJ's and your time on Satellite radio? I've been a radio and mobile DJ for 37 years. I started Sound Choice in 1985 with the mission to provide non-cheesy DJ entertainment (which most of it was at that time) for weddings, specializing in unique locations, such as old mansions, historic sites and boutique facilities. I've also hosted radio shows for many years on AM/FM radio, and now Sirius XM Satellite Radio. To me you seem so well suited to your job, did you know you wanted to be a DJ from the time you were young? Yes. I've been playing records since I was 4 year...

Name That Flower....

Image
We've been having some fun over at our Facebook Page and folks seem to be having fun too. Today we posted the photo below and asked our Fans to name that flower. Do you know what this flower is?  Oh no, we're not going to tell you! If you want to know, link over to our Facebook Page  to either take your own guess or see the reveal! Wondering if this is really a flower we design with? The answer is yes and our proof is the bridal bouquet pictured below from last year!

A Weekend of Summer Weddings

Image
Today's weddings were so pretty we had to share. I know you may get confused because both weddings had similar flowers and colors but each was customized to the couples design ideas. Below is the wedding cake for our Bride Jessica. To say that she was "hands on" and so was her mother is an understatement. This cake was not only decorated by our Designer Alanna but Jessica's mother took control and toss a few blooms on their too!  Jessica's centerpieces were oval shaped designs that were left loose and airy in gold mercury footed bowls. Very elegant and stately, even with the fun loving balloons in the background leading guests to the tented area.   This bouquet was created for our bride Leslie - ranunculus, garden, tea and spray roses with dahlias in shades of creams, peaches and pinks. So pretty, don't you think?   My favorite piece from the weekend, the fireplace mantle for Leslie's wedding. So elegant, country, vintage... You get the vibe! ...

Norman Makes a Funeral Floral Design

Image
Creating custom floral designs is time consuming but very gratifying. Here Designer Norman makes a police officer shield for a memorial service. First he creates the shape out of foam board then adds color, ribbon and fresh flowers.  Custom designs like this are a very respectful way to show your sympathy while incorporating elements to the day that truly represent the person who has passed.   Norman shows off his latest design.  To see this and more of our funeral and sympathy designs, be sure to visit our sympathy specific website at www.sendingsympathy.com

Elegant Topiary Centerpieces

Image
Looking for a centerpiece with drama? I present to you a double ball topiary made from Tea Roses, Spray Roses, Dahlias, Canrations, Berries, Mint, Ivy Trails and Mosses. Clearly not in everyone's budget, this piece is perfect for a buffet or escort card table .  Created for this past weekends wedding  held at the Nassau in, this piece would later be moved to the Escort Card Table to greet guests as they arrived for cocktails.   An elegant, peach, orange, red and burgundy theme, this piece was both traditional and formal ~ perfect for the Nassau Inn , wouldn't you agree? Our Time at Harmony School

Image
Well, if the smiles are any indication, the children at the Harmony School in Princeton Forrestal Village really enjoyed their Terrarium making class hosted by our Designers Alanna and Norman. Norman could not get over how well behaved the children were, how bright and what a wonderful job they did. Future florists perhaps?  Designer Normans shows them how it's done.   The children were just too adorable for words.   And they were very proud of their creations! Not only did they learn about plants but they get to take them home. All in all, it was a wonderful day! A special thanks to the Harmony School for inviting us to come into their facility!   Would you like us to come out to your school or senior center? We'd love to! For more information contact us at 609.520.2005 and we'll be happy to talk about our many programs .

Lighting and Your Wedding Flowers

Image
Are you afraid of using vibrant colors for your wedding? Don't be. Remember, all those close up photos that we florists love taking of our wedding designs are not really "true to life" how your guests will see your flowers. Most guests will be seeing you from 15 feet away or more and other than the close up shots your photographer will get on your wedding day, your photos will mostly be taken in full sun from a distance.  Take the example below. On the left and bottom right was a wedding bouquet we made about 3 years ago. Picture taken from a distance or in full outdoor lighting tend to look lighter than close up shots not in direct sun, as in the photo top right. If you are looking for vibrant tones, I usually advise turning up the color at least 1 or 2 shades, especially if you are being married in an outdoor setting or expect to take lots of photos outside. During the summer, the heat and sunshine really go into maximum brightness, so taking care to go a bit riche...

Terrarium or Flower Centerpiece?

Image
Well, actually, it's both! We began creating terrarium floral centerpieces for tomorrows wedding and although most have been created with flowers, they also include some plant material like this one. Three purple roses, mosses and ivy plants combine to make an elegant floral display, don't you think?  What I really love is how each table will going to be a completely different "container" and so no 2 will look the same. Our color palate is purples and blues and so we are using blue roses and orchids with accents of river stones, fresh mosses, glass gems and even terrarium sand. The bride and grooms also provided us with some fun little characters such as faeries and tiny terrarium animals such as frogs, turtles and even birds. I can't wait to see these all set up at the Lambertville Inn tomorrow night and I'll be sure to post photos!

Sweet and Simple

Image
We love this color combination used to create centerpieces for a wedding reception ~ baby blue hydrangea, pink roses, blue delphinium and pink waxflowers. Styled low in a simple round dish, these centerpieces really looked natural and elegant. Perfect for the setting at the Marriott located in Forrestal Center.  To see this and more of our event design, visit our event websites at www.mondaymorningballoons.com  and/or www.perfectweddingflowers.com

Wedding Anniversary Gift Ideas for Men to Their Ladies

Image
Do  you have a special anniversary coming up ~ 5 years, 10 years maybe even 25 years? Well, we have some really great ideas for you! Take past Groom Ellis for example? This past week was he and Tina's 5th wedding anniversary. What did he do to make the day special? He had us duplicate her bridal bouquet for her! What a sweet guy and what a great idea, right? Can't remember what was in her bridal bouquet ? Don't worry, any talented florist can take a peek at a photo and determine how it was made and what flowers were used. In the case of Tina and Ellis, we designed the original bouquet 5 years ago and so it was easily recreated.  Wow, what about sending this? One hundred, yes I said 100, long stem red roses . Imagine the delivery arriving to her office and how amazing she will feel when all her coworkers see this! Roses are the traditional anniversary flower and they speak of love but if red is not her color, why not send her assorted colors of roses like this ...
