The Perfect Back to School Plant ~ Jade

Image
It's that time of year when we pack up the mini van and drive the kids of to those dreary college dorms. Want to send them with something organic and easy to care for? Then a Jade plant is for you.  The plants are fairly resilient and easy to grow. Jade Plant CARE Allow to dry between waterings, keeping the soil moderately dry. If shedding or brown spots occur on the leaves, however, it is an indication the plant needs more water.  During the winter months you can water less, but do not let it over-dry. That's it, this easy to care for plant does well on a sunny windowsill and requires so little water that a tiny cup once a week does the trick. Transplant into a large pot as it grows.  Jade  plants can grow to a height of 24 inches when indoors. They have a shrub-like form with thick branches and smooth, oval-shaped leaves. We currently  have many to choose from starting at only $9.99 each. Why not stop in and pick one up. They will thank you for it in Jan

Wedding Flower Colors

Image
Can't decide what color flowers for your wedding? I've noticed that lavender and purple never seem to go out of style and work for any season. Last month's bride April had us use all shades of lavender and purple in her July wedding and the look was gorgeous!  Above is April's bridal bouquet of lavender Ocean Song Roses, white Snowflake Spray Roses, purple stock, white and purple mini calla lilies called Picasso, green hypericum berries and accents of seeded Eucalyptus.  Remember that all wedding flowers are created by our talented artists one design at a time, by hand. Would you consider purple and lavender for your wedding flowers?

Succulent Plant Care

Image
Succulent Care  Succulents are fleshy plants, adapted for storing water in times of drought. We carry them at the shop and they make great gifts because of their beautiful presentation and easy maintenance.  They have been very popular for a while, so I thought I would share some care tips. Most succulents like bright indirect light, but not all can tolerate full sun for lengthy periods of time.  During the growing season from Spring to Fall water once a week, making sure the soil is soaked though and then left to drain. During the winter, watering can be adjusted to every other week unless plant is near heat source, use your judgment. Rain water or distilled is preferable to tap, as tap water can be very alkaline. If re potting use soil that has very good drainage.            We carry a "Zen Succulent Garden"  that is the perfect gift for home or office. That's all for today!  :)

Wedding Flowers Re-Purposed

Image
This past Saturday we had 3 lovely weddings we provided flowers for. Our bride April asked us if we could pick up the left over flowers the morning after the reception and re-purpose them for drop off at a few nursing homes. Originally created in glass bubble bowls we thought it would be nice to neaten them up and put them into little silver cups, ginger jars and other cute vases. These are going to be perfect for the residents rooms and various sitting areas.  Such a nice thing to do, don't you agree?   To see photos from this wedding, be sure to visit our wedding website at www.perfectweddingflowers.com

How to Order Funeral Flowers - Part 1 Casket and Urn Flowers

Image
It might sound very strange but some of our best read blogs are about Sympathy Flowers  probably because folks don't know what is appropriate to send.  Whether it's for an immediate family member, friend or business associate, there are "rules" that dictate what type of arrangement you should be sending. This first blog post in a series I'm going to write deal with ordering flowers for placement on the casket. Let me say that flowers are always appropriate, even if you are asking for donation in honor of your loved one. Link here to read our blog about what "In Lieu of Flowers" Means . Is there going to be a casket? If so then you will  need something for the top of the casket . These can be tricky to order but this is a good place to let your florist confer with your funeral director. If the casket is full open or fully closed, these require similar floral designs but need to be styled differently. Is the casket going to be only half open? The
