Flower Centerpieces on a Tight Budget

Image
Would you like centerpieces at your next party but not sure if you can afford them? Here's some tips to keep the cost down and still have beautiful flowers! Be flexible on the flower selection; the most economical way to order flowers is to ask for flowers in a color theme, not by flower varieties. As florists, we buy flowers week in and week out directly from our farm sources. They often come in solid flower types but in mixed colors. Buying this way keeps the cost down because we are ordering large quantities in advance allows the farms to sell a lot in whatever color they have blooming at that time. When a florist buys in small quantities by certain colors, the price per stem can be double or even triple the case pricing. Keep in mind, that this only works for smaller orders. If you need 25 centerpieces that all look the same, special buying may be necessary, thus raising the cost.  Let the designer suggest what will give you the biggest presentation given your budget. Bridal Guide Wedding

Image
It's always fantastic seeing our floral designs featured in a wedding publication and it's happened again! The February/March addition of Bridal Guide is out sharing a wedding we created for Kristin and Brandon at the Chauncey Conference Center. Below are a few of our favorite photos from this amazing wedding! The brides maids carried three Juliet Garden roses with summer grasses.   Kristin's bouquet featured lace flower, tea roses, garden roses, grasses, stock and 3 different types of eucalyptus.   The bride and groom rented some vintage furniture and used this bureau as a way of telling the guests what table they were to be seated at!   The wedding cake was a simple design accented with fresh flowers. The cake was created by Cramer's Bakery of Yardley, PA.   This is the addition the article is featured - February/March Bridal Guide   We always love working at Chauncey Conference Center but it was a truly was an amazing experience creati

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Image
Posting a bit late but HAPPY HOLIDAYS! The shop has been very busy since the beginning of December and we are so grateful for all our customers who allow us to make a living doing what we love to do. As always we've been helping folks express their feelings and with this Winter season still comes birthday's, get well's and unfortunately sympathy's along with the festive occasions of Hanukkah, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. It's always fun to see the holiday trends and this year traditional centerpieces were the best sellers such as this design created by our lead designer. We also had many folks choosing festive basket designs such as this Berries and Spices which included cinnamon sticks.  We even had some fun with Succulent plants by using fun Merry Christmas boxes as pots.  Although not as popular as previous years, we still made a fair amount of Boxwood trees. This one will be brightening someone's day when it's delivered on Christmas

Decorate and Celebrate

Image
Can you believe that December 1st is this Friday? Well, the weather has turned a bit cooler but it still hard to believe that Christmas is less than 30 days away. Of course, as soon as Thanksgiving is over, our customers start requesting holiday and winter themed floral designs and we do not want to disappoint them! Lead Designer Alanna has added quite a few new designs to the offerings this year including the 2 designs below. This one is called Rudolph . Either of these adorable designs would make a perfect centerpiece for a party or for at home on a coffee table, right? The design below is called the Mosaic .  Which one is your favorite? In addition to new floral designs, we have brought in a wide selection of gourmet items for gift baskets, including some yummy chocolates . These are great grab bag or Secret Santa Gifts.  We have also brought in a few new gift lines such as Naked Bee which is a natural skincare line with nourishing ingredients and addictive scents. Th

Happy Thanksgiving! The holiday means different things to different people. Working in the flower business it's about helping other have a festive and happy day. Our designers have been hard at working creating some pretty floral designs in all shapes and sizes. This pretty centerpiece was priced at only $24.99!   This design is called Skillman Sophistication.   We sold so many ceramic pumpkins this holiday!  Another pretty centerpiece with sunflowers, roses, statice, pods and eucalyptus.   Cornucopias are popular ever year and this year was no exception.   Many of our designs were styled as low and long designs, perfect for long tables. Which one is your favorite?

Happenings at the Flower Shop

Image
Our days are busy and varied and this week was no exception. Our Sales Associate Alexis often designs but this was her very first casket spray. Isn't it pretty? We think she did a great job.  This week we have two weddings, including this one for Friday. Pink must be the popular color right now! We're thinking our bride "Lavender" is going to be so surprised when she lays eyes on this beauty.  Fabulous customer Anna from California contacted us via Yelp and said "Help", I need to send 60 roses and so here you go - who wouldn't be thrilled when this arrives, right?  Our Lead Designer Alanna was hard at work filling our cooler with gorgeous summer floral arrangements like this one. One minute it's in our cooler and then next it's leaving with a happy customer.  Can you send my wife a bright summer flower design to cheer her up? Of course we can. This pretty design includes mini calla lilies, roses, hydrangea, sunflowers and other

3 Tips to Help Your Fresh Flowers Live Longer

Image
"What's the best way to keep my flowers fresh and long lasting"? I hear this question all the time and my answer is as simple as 1, 2, 3! Make sure there is no foliage in the water. Decaying foliage causes bacteria to grow.  Keep your flowers in a cool spot out of the sun or away from heat sources.  Change the water daily if possible which gets rid of the bacteria that kills the flowers. Can it really be that simple? Yes it is. Flower Food? It's fine if you don't have any. I've always believed that fresh water trumps everything.  Good rule of thumb - if you wouldn't drink the water, then your flowers probably don't want to either! Did you know that surrounding yourself with fresh flowers is an instant mood enhancer?  A 2013 Huffington Post article says: Smelling floral scents also seems to put us in a good mood and make us feel less anxious. Flowers clearly aren’t going to eliminate the need for medication, but they may take the

Sending Flowers to the Funeral or to the Home?

Image
One of the most asked questions is "Should I send flowers to the service or to the home" and although either one can be appreciated, they are very different. With the time between the death and funeral services getting shorter and shorter (sometimes less than 3 days) it's becoming harder for folks to make arrangements to attend a service. Of course, most want to express their sympathy in some way, so sending flowers is a thoughtful way to do that. The flowers sent to the service are often highly personalized, especially those coming from direct family members. Favorite flowers and colors are often requested and personal items or even hobbies can be included. Flowers and plants sent directly for the funeral home or church help provide a backdrop and atmosphere for the service. They represent the person who has passed while gifts sent directly the home are meant to express feelings of support towards the survivors. The next question we often get is "What'

Floral Management Magazine Coverage

Image
It's always an honor to be included in an industry magazine and that's exactly what happened in the April/May issue of Floral Management magazine. Our shop was shown in all it's glory in a column called Shop Snapshot. I think it's looking rather amazing if I do say so myself!! Our Lead Designer Alanna even made the Employee Spotlight where she talks about her love for the industry, what it's like working at Monday Morning Flowers and where she sees the future of floral shops going. She's always saying she wants to be famous so I think is a pretty good start. Congratulations Alanna on some fabulous coverage!  Lastly there was some coverage of yours truly. Yikes - bad hair day for sure! In case you were wondering, the whole cover story is not about MMF, it features many other great florists such as Timpton & Hurst, Memorial Florists & Greenhouses and  Gallo & Son's Florist  And of course, we can't forget Kevin!   And here are a few sh

No Two the Same ~ Our 3 for $20 Bouquets

Image
One year ago we introduced our new "3 for $20" bunch program into the shop. 7 days a week you can come in to choose the prettiest fresh flowers ~ one bunch for $10 or three bunches for $20. Mixing and matching is super easy and we have almost as much fun seeing what the customer put together as they do!  Once the customer decides on their flower choices, one of our designers hand ties the bouquet together, wraps in pretty paper and adds a delicate ribbon bow.  Sunflowers, orange carnations and white daisies. Don't you love the combo?  White daisy, green hydrangea and pink alstroemeria.
